Lakeland or Sanford

Direct Air flies out of both Lakeland and Sanford, which is closer to Disney? Which airport has more car rental options, I thought I read somewhere Lakeland only has Budget. Thanks.

DH and DD did Sanford and said it was great (they only flew down to Sanford, we flew back out of MCO) and one of the best things was that they rented a car from National and were able to drop it off at the Dolphin which was super easy.

I believe they are about the same distances, but have not been to Lakeland. With Sanford you have to drive through Orlando, but you reach WDW before Orlando from Lakeland.

They are both almost the same distance to WDW at approx 50 miles but Sanford has many more options for car rentals and better prices.

I have been to Lakeland twice for Sun n Fun airshow. Lakeland is not a nice town. They have a high crime rate and some parts of the town/city are scary. I think two weeks ago a Lakeland police officer was killed during a traffic stop during the day.

Lakeland has both Hertz and U Save car rental companies. We fly in there next week. If given the choice, I would prefer Lakeland because it looks like a very easy drive to Kissimmee.
