This may be the world's most stupid question, so forgive me if it is....I have never golfed and never will.

If someone wants to go golfing, can they rent golf clubs? There is no way my husband can cart his clubs down on top of all the other stuff we bring with us and our two kids. He's mentioned wanting to golf, so I was wondering if that is possible?

Three different levels of rental clubs are available. I don't remember the exact cost but I think the basic set is about $30.

You can rent clubs (Calloways) but the cost is currently close to $50 for a round (or $65 if you want graphite shafts). In other words, it is cheaper to haul those golf clubs with you.

It does also depend on what type of golf he wants. WDW has 5 championship courses that are TOP class facilities, but the price goes with that level of service. Depending on the time of year you go the rate for a round can be anywhere between $50 and $150 a round plus the club rentals. An alternative is the walking 9 hole ( family) Oak Ridge course that is likely to come in nearer $25 for 9 holes and an extra $10 to replay ( making 18 holes) on the same day. You can hire just a half set for the walking course so the cost there is also lower. This course isn't to the same level as the championship courses but is still a worthwhile challange and a bit of fun, given it is a "family" course you will get a mix of abilities playing so there are times that patience is required :).

If you have a car there are a number of courses off site that will cost considerably less than the Disneys ones but stll are of championship quality. If you wanted to suprise him with a real treat for a golfer I think this http://www.progolfguides.com offers a really good service for a pretty good price. As a keen golfer a playing lesson with a PGA pro is a great chance to get valuable tips on how to play your way round a course and gives the pro a better idea on how you play golf as opposed to how you hit the ball on the driving range. Phil will collect you from your hotel, provide clubs, play 18 holes with you, give tips on your swing and course management then reuturn you to your hotel. Door to door service and no need for your own clubs. It makes giving this as a suprise gift easy to do and a chance at a memorable day for the receiver.

I just found info on equipment rental at wdwgolf.com

Equipment Rental (Club rental requires $500 Credit Card Dep/Picture ID)
Callaway Clubs - Men's Graphite $45
Callaway Clubs - Men's Steel/Women's Graphite $40
Junior/Child Steel Free
Foot-Joy Shoes (Men/Women) $7

Sorry, but I couldn't resist - One does not "go golfing" - one "plays golf". One who has finished a round has not "golfed", they have "played golf".

Me? I'm actually going footballing this weekend with my son, and then maybe go hockeying afterwards. But then again, since he has never hockeyed of footballed before, it might be hard. :D:D:D;)

Sorry, Big Lou! How's this: I have never played golf, and I never will play golf, but I would like to treat my husband while we are in Disney with a game of golf.

Am I hip with golf-ese now? Hey, I learned something new today. I am glad I asked here before I called Disney and asked about "going golfing"!!!

Thanks for all the help to everyone!

Now, for one last question (hopefully not an ignorant one): if my husband and brother-in-law play a game of golf together, do they rent two sets of clubs or one?

Actually, Disney rents Titleist golf clubs (new clubs arrived about 4 months ago). Prices are around $40/set. Clubs are available at all Disney courses.

It would be wonderful if you could play golf with your husband. Just don't ask him if he wants to "Play a round".

Most courses require each player to have their own set of clubs. If not for any other reason, the pace of play for players sharing a single set would bog down the entire course.

Poor play is not a problem - SLOW play is intolerable. Some courses will actually remove you from the course if you are the reason for the slow play.

Big Lou,

The professor in me can't resist a response. Golf is actually an intransitive verb (as well as a noun) and, therefore, the phrase "I golfed" is indeed correct grammar. Just looked it up (yes, yes, I know I need to get a life ;) ) to make sure I was not incorrect.

I have no doubt that you are correct on the grammatical use of an intransitive verb, Doc. I was pointing out a pet peeve of many golfers about those terms, all in fun.:) (And yes, just because someone is a "golfer" does NOT mean that they "golf"):D

Now that I think about it, I'm not so sure that golf is or can be a verb at all. How can you "golf"? You can't "golf" anymore than you can "hockey".

If there is a reference to "golf" as a verb, my historical perspective on this great game leads me to believe that it is a mistake. Read any golf publication, and I'm sure you will not find the words "golfed" or "golfing" anywhere. And you will not find any use of the word "golf" as a verb. :D

LOL!! (playing) Golf / Golf / Golf(ing) is frustrating enough without worrying about grammar!

LOL, Big Lou. You have appealed to my sense of the greater good. For the good of the great game of golf, I will agree that we should not allow such abuse of such a sacred term.:)

Pentex-

Just about every decent course will require each player to have a set of clubs. As biglou said, its to maintain a reasonable pace of play, which is sometimes a problem at Disney.

I'm not sure if your husband and brother-in-law travel much, but they may still want to consider buying a travelling case and bringing their clubs. You can get a decent one for a little under $100, and they go up from there. Considering what it costs to rent clubs, the case can pay for itself in 3-4 trips. There's usually enough room to pack a few other things in them too (clothes).

It is a pain in the airport, but if you get one with wheels, its not too bad.

Thanks and sorry if my questions seem lame, but I know nothing about golf. I'm show my hubby and BIL this thread............
