Ladies, when to wear / not wear a slip?

How do you decide whether to wear a slip with a particular skirt or dress?

Do you wear a slip only if the clothing is not lined? Do you always wear a slip?

I'm 40 years old and STILL confused about this! Please help straighten me out!

I wear a slip when something is see-though-ish and needs the extra protection, or if it tends to ride up easily. But only then, since I hate slips!

I personally only wear one if a dress or skirt is not lined and doesn't hang right or is see through w/o one. At the moment I have only one dress that isn't lined and I had a really hard time finding a slip to wear with it because of the design. I also will wear a camisole with a lightweight/sheer blouse.

If it's not lined, a slip is underneath it. I have slips in every length to cover all my skirts!

Sometimes I forget because if I don't have to wear one, I won't.

Just yesterday, DH came home and when he saw me he asked if I was wearing a slip. Oops, no, I'm not. Is it bad, I asked. The skirt was see-through in the right lighting but - with the top being a long tunic type going below my hips - hubby said it "looked nice".

So, I got away with it yesterday but I have embarrassed myself at times, always in retrospect.

Perhaps I should start keeping some slips at work.

I haven't worn a slip in years. I hate them. I used to wear one with a skirt I had that was pretty sheer, but I don't have any skirts *that* sheer anymore. Actually I probably do, and I probably look obscene when I'm out in the sun, but if I don't notice it in my mirror at home then it doesn't count!

I agree with some of the others - I only wear one if the dress is unlined or I think it MIGHT be see through in the right light.

My momma taught me to wear a slip whenever I have a skirt or dress on. That's what I do. I have full slips (top and bottom connected), half slips, camisoles, in black, white and beige. You name it, I got it and I wear it.

Hmm, I don't think I have ever worn a slip.

I didn't even really know people wore them!!! I never thought about a skirt or dress being see through.

Most, if not all of my skirts are lined, but its very infrequent that I even wear a skirt/dress

Thank you! It sounds like there are no specific RULES that everyone knows except me. Sounds like everyone does their own thing.

I wore a lined skirt yesterday without a slip & was feeling awkward, but it sounds like I was doing just fine!

I feel better now!!
