Ladies those who color own hair....

OK this time I covered floor an sink toliet ect in bathroom did my roots at the sink then stood in tub with the shower curtain closed to do rest of hair good thing I did as I splatter walls of shower an dripped on floor a lot! Had a rag for quick wipe ups as I went too that was better. Good thing I got in shower tho cause I'd have splatter my freshly painted bathroom walls not FUN!

If the comb in color's comb has teeth as close together as the loreal cream is then it would be useless for me. VERY VERY CURLY hair an I can't even get a pick thru it without it being wet an lots of conditioner on hair. Then it's a slow process.

As a kid not allowed to cut my hair hair past my waist didn't know about wetting hair using conditioner an picking hair out with a pick. IT took me at least 45 mins every morning just to brush my hair. At that time it was very very thick curled up almost to my shoulders I had the biggest afro in 3 states a white girl not even tryin to have an afro lol

Even tho my hair has thinned out a lot I can still make an afro by brushing hair then using a pick on it an it stays in that afro all by itself. TMI I know

I don't remember how close together the teeth on the comb are, but you don't have to use it. There are two lids, a regular squirt lid and the comb, they both just screw onto the bottle. HTH.

I had the same problem as you. Then I learned to only use 1/2 of the hair colouring, and save the rest of the unmixed colour for next time. Less drips and less mess. However, I still had to clean up splatters so I started to colour in the bathtub. I get my instructions, mirror, comb, gloves, clock, old toothbrush for fine touchups, and anything else I might need. They are resting on the floor. I colour and then have a nice soak in the tub, while waiting for the time to pass. If any colouring gets on the tub or ceramic tile it will not stain. I just wipe it up after I'm finished.

An old t-shirt. Then what I do is after the dye is on, I pull on a disposable shower cap to contain it all.

After the cap is on, I wipe up all the mess with the Lysol wipes. :guilty: I've never once avoided the drip.

I am a natural brunette, who is now gray. I mix 2 colors, mahogany and dark brown, and I get a nice color. I hang a towel over the door, so the back of the door does not get coloring, and I put down a shower curtain on the floor. I have a cape and bowl that I bought from Sally's and I apply the color with a paint brush. I used to have problems with color everywhere in restroom, but not now. Don't be afraid to mix colors.

I use Henna and indigo to dye my hair and that eliminates the messy liquid dripping factor. It mixes up like a paste and i just use gloved hands to saturate my hair from root to tip. I also have a beauticians short cape to wear since the towel would never stay on me and my hair is past my shoulders & I didn't want it resting on me with the henna in it. The henna will dry and you can sweep up the little particles. I do put newspaper on the floor though and base my hairline but it doesn't stain my skin too bad.

Henna only grows out (i.e., so very not easy to get off your hair with lightening, etc.), so be careful those of you who change your mind often. ;)

To the OP, I don't dye my own hair (I'm a stylist), but I have a few tips for ya! Divide your hair into quarters, starting with one of the bottom quarters, go through one section at a time. Makes for a more even application and tends to be less messy, as you're being a little more conscious about how much color you're using, and you won't be just squirting color willy-nilly. Also, Vaseline along the hairline, ears, etc. will keep the color from getting your skin. I know it's a drag, but first-time dyers really should to the test patch. You don't really have to wait 24 hours. A couple hours is sufficient. Most people aren't effected by the chemicals, but just in case you're that tiny percentage, it pays to be cautious. Good luck!

i have a lot of old towels so i just lay them over everything, including the toilet with the lid shut. I wash my hair out in a stainless steel sink (kitchen - if you use the sprayer it really makes it easier too!).

you can also put a cheap shower cap over your head once you're done with the dying and waiting for it to set.

and for face/ears/neck I recently had a pretty bad bunch of dye all over my face, i looked up on the internet and it said to use dish soap and baking soda mixed together. I tried it and I couldn't believe how well it worked! it does leave your face a little 'raw' though.

I also like the Perfect 10 comb applicator and I have one that I washed out and use for all the other dies that don't have the comb.
I have an old t shirt that I use by itself or to cover my clothes and I have one old towel that I only use when I color my hair for quick clean up of spatters.
Take your time there is no need to rush.

i had a clariol house partyi had 7 woman dying their hair we all used the 10 minute hair dye but we had old t-shirts and rinsed in the laundry sink but i did get some on the floor magic eraser took it off

Honestly I make such a mess that I have had to paint my bathroom to cover all the drips. I also have really long hair and have to use 2 boxes. Now that my bathroom is painted I just use my hairdye nightie and sit in the tub with a full length mirror propped on the faucet. It is quite a funny site I am sure but I have yet to ruin my paint job and just turn on the shower after i am done to clean up the drips!:goodvibe
i am also a fan of perfect 10.:dance3:
