Hi Ladies!

(Gentleman are certainly welcome to respond, but I am expecting more answers from the females on this one)

So, DH and I are planning a very exciting trip to Paris over Christmastime this year. :santa::goodvibes We plan to spend to spend the 24th - 26th at DLP and the rest of the trip walking around Paris. I am soooo excited!!! This will be my 3rd trip to Paris and DH's 2nd (although both of us have only been in the summer months). It is both of our first trip to DLP!

Now, here's my dilemma... I know it will be cold. I am anticipating this, but can someone tell me how many layers and how warm of a coat is needed. I have been doing some reading and it seems that some Parisians say that tourists always wear too much and get overheated. Also, what type of shoes do you ladies wear in the winter at the parks? I plan to bring boots for Paris touring, but I would enjoy any specific examples. This is Paris afterall, I am trying to find a balance of chic and practical. ;)

Please know that I am TERRIBLY ignorant when it comes to cold weather dressing, as I was born and raised in Southern California and have not spent much time in cold climates during winter. We're talking about a ski trip here and there and that's it.:confused:

Thanks in advance for any input!

I've never been, but we go in Feb and I expect it to be cold!

I will most deff be dressing for comfort.

Boots, warm jacket, prob bring a hat and gloves too.

Also be prepared for rain/snow so id go with a waterproof jacket.

I am also contemplating waterproof trousers, just in case the weather is miserable, though hopefully won't need them.

sorry I am prob not much help as I am not very fashionable, I go for what will keep me warm and comfortable over anything else :)

Though if you are not used to cold weather you may 'feel it colder'

it can be cold enough at DLP for skiwear in February - no joke !
remember you're outside most of your day at DLP, its Northern Europe in the depths of winter.

I don't do fashion for DLP - I wear comfy waterproof boots, jeans or trousers, a range of Disney t-shirts/sweaters, and always have a fleece jumper, winter coat, hat, scarf/neckwarmer, thermal socks, and gloves with me on February trips. Layers are the way to go at that time of year in Norther Europe :).

Thank you for the suggestions of layers. Most helpful. :thumbsup2
Any brand of waterproof boots that you find comfortable and can recommend?

I should say that I meant more fashionable when we are in Paris, and running from museum to museum to cafe, etc., and not while DLP. I want to be warm and comfy in DLP so I can last all day and not get too cold!

I will be in the parks during winter for the first time this year and one of the things that I will pack is thermal underwear. I do a lot of hiking and in cold weather those have become quite essential. I don't have the warmes ones, they are just a thin layer, but if you are outside for longer periods of time they add so much comfort! And since they are thin they are not too warm when you are sitting inside for a meal or so. Of course that is not fashionable at all!

Otherwise for the park I am planning on bringing my waterproof jacket with fleece inlay (also hiking gear). I recently bought these new winter boots: http://www.lowa.de/en/products/outdoor/cold-weather-boots/details.html which I think will be quite perfect.

I would definitely recommend bringing hat, gloves and scarf. I love fleece hats as they are soft and warm.

On the city touring: Having lived in a few of the bigger European cities (Berlin, London, Munich) I can tell you that dressing for winter there is quite tricky. You will constantly go from cold to warm and back. Some of the metro stations are bound to be pretty warm and I would guess that the trains are heated. Every time you go inside a building it will be warm. I would suggest to have an outher layer that is not too bulky so that you can take it off and hold it when you are inside (I do that for example when I go into shops). When it gets really cold I have a thinner fleece that I wear under the coat to make it warmer. Otherwise inside the buildings it is going to be warm enough for normal indoor clothes. I usually wear a short sleeved top (or nicer t-shirt) and a cardigan with jeans or a skirt in winter. Also, make use of the cloak rooms at the museums. I never understand the people who walk through art museums in winter in their heavy winter coats!

Layers! Coat, sweater, and maybe some kind of button down (J Crew has some very cute "preppy chic" ones that look great poking out of a sweater). You're right on with boots; I would recommend a riding boot with a flat heel because they're much more comfortable and very stylish.

Agree with all the others re layers. And I definitely suggest thermal underwear (you can get some really pretty ones now). They were the best thing I ever wore on our trips in January and really made a difference.
