Ladies... cervical dysplasia... treatments

Cervical Cancer is not hereditary. I would speak w/ your GYN about it, but I've been told repeatedly by 5 different GYN's and/or surgeons it's not hereditary.

Yes he confirmed that today.

Well I am having the cold knife cone biopsy done. I will be put to sleep and it is a day surgery. I was very happy to hear I was gonna be out of it WHEW! I don't want to think about the after part :( I don't think I have ever been knocked out and my DH always gets sick after. ICK! I will find out the date soon.

Good luck with the surgery. My only advice - make sure you keep all of the follow up appointments, especially the repeat paps.

I had a low grade lesion about 3 years ago, had the colpo done (not horrifically uncomfortable) and the cryo (still not really bad, I thought) The doc did tell me to take 800mg ibuprofen about an hour before. Conpared to some of the infertility testing I went through (hysterosalpingogram.....), I didn't think the colp or cryo were bad. The head rush after the cryo was something else though. Good thing the doc warned me to lay down for a while, and that it was going to happen.

The cryo he did for me was 3mins then 10mins later 3mins again. I ran to the toilet to throw after the 1st 3 mins! And I had a valium. I was in soo much pain with that. He said everyone is different.

Everyone reacts differently to that sort of stuff. A bunch of people here told me the hysterosalpingogram was nothing to get worried about. I personally don't think I've ever had anything hurt that bad. It's just proof that the words "cervix" and "clamp" should never go in the same sentence ;)

Good luck with everything

Jen

I actually have to agree w/ the hystersalipingogram. I thought that was brutual too.

Good luck w/ the surgery. They did my last one in the hospital too. I woke up sick but went home and slept the rest of the day.

Miss Missy- I hope everything goes well for you.

Thanks!

update:

Got the surgery done today. I am soooo :cool1: :Pinkbounc  that it is DONE and I am doing ok with pain too. Whew! It went smoothly and I have pain meds so I am VERY comfy. I am surprised that it didn't hurt as much as I thought!

I have to call Monday for results to be sure they "got it all" so pray for that to go well. Hopefully all the bad cells are gone :)

Darn it! Dr called with results from cone biopsy. He originally hoped this surgery was treatment too. the report states moderate to fairly high and is deep in canal of cervix. He wants me in to talk about it next week. Sounds like there is more to get and this isn't over :( Just got this news so I am kinda like :furious: that it isn't over yet. I will get used to the idea as time goes by.

everything went so well, I was hoping for the end of it, ya know.

I don't know what is next for you, the cryo and cone did it for me, but I am hoping for the best for you. Let us know how it goes and good luck.

Thanks! I really had myself happy thinking it was over. Now I gotta re-adjust that thought and right now I am just plain mad :worried:

Sorry to hear you aren't in the clear yet. I had cryosurgery a few years ago and had to have a 2nd round. The first one was bad but I was able to work that night and the second one left me feeling tired and drained.

{{{{HUGS}}}} I hope you get some good news soon.

I just found this thread and wanted to wish you luck.

I have also been through this. Before my son was born, I had one "bad" pap and they did repeat paps every three month and found nothing, so back to once a year I went. At the one year check up after my son's birth (1995), I had a "bad" pap and had a colposcopy done. It was found to be malignant and I had a cold knife cone done with success. Three years later I was pregnant again and there was a lot of concern because my cervix wasn't as "thick" as they wanted. However due to my extreme scarring, I was able to carry the baby to term.

I have been asking for a hysterectomy for about 5 years since I am finished having children and am tired of worrying about the cancer returning. Dr. has refused.

Fast forward to this year, 11 years after my last "bad" pap. I once again had funky cells including some uterine. I had another colposcopy done. Due to the extreme scarring and location of these cells, they had to go deep and man did it hurt. The GYN oncologist didn't like the fact that none of the pap cells matched the colposcopy cells, so back for yet another cold knife cone (this one done by the oncologist). That was a breeze with absolutely no post-op pain, and luckily for me all was benign, however I don't think there is much cervix left.

My OB/GYN is finally ready to admit that a hysterectomy is the right choice for me. It is just up to me to schedule a date. I think I will wait until the end of May so I can recouperate by the pool.

My best thoughts are with you. I know exactly how hard it is to sit there and listen to news you don't want to hear.

Keep us posted. You are in my prayers.
