We're heading to WDW in September on the Dining plan and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how well the following restaurants cater to lactose intolerance. I've heard great things, but would like a better idea about the places I've made reservations for.

Boma, The Crystal Palace (breakfast), Teppan Edo, Liberty Tree Tavern, Les Chefs de France, 1900 Park Fare (breakfast)

Thanks!

I'm LI and the first thing you should do, if you haven't already, is have them note "Lactose Intolerant" on all of your dining reservations.

I've dined at the buffets at Boma, Crystal Palace and 1990 Park Fare. At each of these, the servers noticed that LI was noted on the reservation and they each went and got a chef to come to the table or the chef met me at the buffet line. The chefs then asked me what I couldn't have and then, dish by dish, quickly walked through the buffet line with me pointing out which dishes had dairy. Since some buffets have limited non-dairy dessert selections, they sometimes offer to bring out Rice Dream or something similar - just to tell the server.

I also dined at Chefs De France, but it was 2.5 years ago, so their procedures may have changed, but it was the one bad LI experience I've had dining at Disney World. No chef came out, the French server just said he'd note my request, but based on my reaction later the diary was not substituted. All of the dishes on the menu seemed to have dairy in them, so I had to rely on the server/chef communication. These days I'd ask to speak with the chef since that's standard procedure at all the other table service restaurants now.

I haven't been to Teppan Edo or Liberty Tree Tavern yet. But from the menu, Teppan Edo looks pretty safe except for the creamy sesame salad dressing, since Japanese cuisine rarely uses dairy. We're heading to LTT next month for lunch and I've been following the Food Photos thread and the Colony Salad (hold the cheese) looks tasty.

You can let the chef know through WDW Dine, and they will let you speak to the chef and they can switch up some of the stuff or tell you what is ok to eat and what is not ok to eat. most of those choices sound fine, we have eaten at 1900 PF, Boma, Crystal Palace, and chef's de france, i was able to find something at each one since I am also lactose intolerant

Thanks for your suggestions! I've had them note that I am LI on the reservation and had planned on calling the restaurants ahead of time, as the cast member that helped me make the reservations gave me the phone numbers for each place. I was just curious how the options were. Thanks :)

My little DS is LI and I have found it easy to find him things to eat. You will have lots of options and everyone is so helpful. My little guy survives on Silk and that is available lots of places too. :goodvibes

My DGD is allergic to both dairy and eggs. My DD noted that on her ADR's and was told the the restaurant can then prepare in advance for her. We were asked at check in if there were any allergies and the server was alerted. The Chef then came out to the table to discuss the menu options and how my DGD could be accomodated. I have never been so impressed by Disney as I was by the way my DGD was treated and given so many options for her meals. She had not been able to enjoy breakfast out since her diagnosis, the chefs prepared pancakes and waffles for her. The look on her face was worth every penny spent on that Disney trip. One of the Chefs told me that they were trained in 40 different food allergies.

I would add that if you stop in on the DISabilities forum the folks there will have so many tips to help your family.

You won't need to worry. My son has multiple food allergies and they take very good care of him. Two trips and disney dining with NO problems. He has a milk allergy. At Liberty Tavern ask for dairy free mashed potoatoes and gravy!

Dairy free waffles and mashed potatoes w/gravy made by someone other than myself, sound fantastic!!!!

They have rice dream and tofutti at the Ice Cream Parlor in MK too! My son had his first Milkshake at Whispering Canyon Cafe too all made with rice milk and rice icecream!

Question, for those of you who are LI (and not allergic), did you ever consider taking lactase pills? I am LI and I take Lactaid and I can pretty much eat any dairy I want (within reason).

Again, I understand its a different issue for those with allergies, but if you are merely LI, why not try the pills? They make a generic brand that is available OTC for just a few bucks

I have tried many different types of LI pills and they do not help me. I think different people have different levels of intolerance. I wish that they did work for me. It would make things a lot easier. Thanks for the advice though.

We used the Lactaid pills for my niece when we first found out she was LI. Now it seems they don't work. It was getting expensive for my sister as she was not making special food for my niece, so she was having Lactaid pills every day. My sister has completely stopped giving DNiece anything with dairy in it for quite a while now.

My sister is trying again tonight with a hotdog and a pill to see if she can start having some milk products.

We will have to wait and see.

I can't wait til September to see DNiece face when she gets waffles! She hasn't had any for over a year. I make her special bread and pizza crust. I'm sure I could make the waffles, but just haven't made time for it-and now that the trip is so close, I just can't do it!
