Lack of Desire to Travel

I too don't have a desire to travel outside the country. I would rather watch a travel special about a different country it but not to travel there. I don't want to have to deal with converting money, figuring out how to drive on their roads, eating strange foods, speaking their language, ect.

So you are not alone.

I can see both sides of it, I think. I love to travel. Totally love it, although the getting there, and the getting back has turned into a HUGE hassle these days. I went to the Med & Israel in 2010, and London & Paris in 2011. Both trips were fabulous. However, the flights (and the cost of those flights :faint: ) were somewhat of an ordeal. And worrying about adapters, and currency, and prescriptions, and all sorts of things like that just adds a level of stress to the travel. But the experiences once I am there -- phenomenal. However, I just could *not* face going to Europe again this year, and even opted for the Philly/DC trip for 2013. And, honestly, as much as I loved my foreign trips, my favorite trips have still been in the US. Southwest Splendors, with the totally amazing and spectacular desert scenery, and the Grand Canyon -- not to be missed. Alaska, with Mt Denali and the Kenai Fjords... beyond description. One of my favorite places in the world is Yosemite.

So this is a long, rambly way of saying that there are pluses and minuses to both foreign and domestic travel. I think the key thing is to travel. It doesn't matter where, as long as you're expanding your horizons. And heaven knows there are a TON of horizon-expanding places right here in the US & Canada.

But I'm already looking at the Greece trip. I'm very jealous of the folks that went this year. So, traveling hardships aside, I'm still going to travel abroad while I can. I'm definitely not done with that yet.

Sayhello

I also never want to sit through a Nascar race.
Shucks, here I am watching the NASCAR race at Watkins Glen on tv thinking it would be awesome Kevin and John join us to watch our first live race at Daytona. :(

Just kidding Kevin and John.

This reminds me of my paternal grandmother. She did not want to travel much when she was alive, but when my grandfather was alive she would go to NASCAR races at Atlanta and the closest track to them in Talladega.

I love to travel, but our travels funds are limited this year due to extra medical expenses. We hope for a nice trip next year that mostly likely be domestic travel due to budget. Our August 2011 was done to meet NC Beast's friend from his childhood days who was an exchange student from Spain. It was at least half of the money to spend time and see WDW from a different perspective.

I loooooooooove to travel, but have no real desire to go to Europe. It all sounds wonderful, but there are just too many places I want to see here in the US first. I'm still trying to make it to Disneyland for pete's sake. (no pun intended) And it all just sounds like so much rigamarole going across the pond. Plus, I have a thing about ice. I need lots of ice in my drinks. ::yes:: I also consider, for the price and time of one European trip, I could do two, maybe even three trips here in the states. I'll take double the trips any day. I'm not saying I'll never do it, but the motivation isn't there at all right now. ABD is very appealing to me though, I'd just much rather do the BSM ABD and Spirit of America. When I start wondering about going to other countries, I just watch a couple episodes of House Hunters International. :rotfl:

Whaaa?

Getting up at 6AM in the morning to sit for nine hours on uncomfortable metal benches in the sizzling heat to watch cars with ear-bleedingly loud engines go round and round on an oval track while the smells of stale, cheap beer and gas fumes battle for dominance over your waves of ever-increasing nausea as the effects of sun stroke edge you slowly and mercifully closer into a state of unconsciousness ?

What's not to love ?

:tilt:

With enough planning you don't have to get up at 6, and you can get tickets in a covered section…Oh, wait, you're being facetious. :D

I don't think it is strange to have different preferences.

My husband and I love to travel. Before kids we spent a month in Europe with Eurail Passes.

Now we focus on the US. We go on a Disney vacation only every other year or so because there is so much to see here. And we love road trips.

One of the great things about life is everyone is different and have different aspirations.

My family and my husbands family were never big travelers. I was lucky enough to go alone(well a big group from school)to Europe and it's been one of the highlights of my life even still. My family use to travel to Disney World every 4 years and it was always worth it. Still besides the Jersey Shore that was the most traveling I did and I always wanted to do more since. Since I met my husband I now have someone to enjoy these things with(I contemplated for awhile doing it alone but it's just not as enjoyable to do things alone)and he never got to travel to Florida or any of the other places we have gone together(lots of east coast road trips).

I know people who find traveling more of a hassle than it's worth but I am not one of those people. Oddly I've wanted to visit more exotic locales than most on here than say the west coast of the US which I still haven't been. I have plans in the works for a road trip to the west coast at some point so I guess I'm waiting till then.

It also helps that I have a lot of friends living in other countries and traveling a lot who take astounding pictures of these places and making me want to go. Unfortunately I am not rich and have aspirations for other things in life(i.e. horseback riding)so I can't just go when the mood strikes but it gives me a goal and motivation too.

I do feel strange that I don't aspire to visit Disney World every year. I would love to visit all of the Disney Parks throughout the world someday though that would be cool!
