There is a mom at my daughter's school who since it got cold out started to carpools in the afternoon with another mother. Usually its just the 2 moms and their 2 first graders but whenever she has to bring her 2 year old twins with her, she just puts them on her lap IN THE FRONT SEAT!!! Yes she uses the seat belt but :scared1:

The part that gets me really mad is that there is a cop who is directing traffic everyday and they drive by him and he just waves at the girls!!!!

One of the other moms made a comment to her about it the other day and she just laughed it off saying she only lives around the corner.

It makes me so mad! I could understand if it was an emergency but its has happened at least 2 times a week!

this makes me crazy too:mad:I can't believe the cop directing traffic doesn't do something about it...it's against the law for crying out loud! :sad2:It only takes one moron to slam into the car and kill those babies:guilty:I was rear ended last fall and my car was wrecked...the only thing that kept me from going through the window was my seatbelt....I can't imagine what would have happened if I had a kid on my lap!

oh my! that's shocking! It's unbelieveable that 1, she would do something so reckless, and 2, that the cop says nothing!

Horrifying!!! The worst part is it's the front seat. Those angels could be killed by an airbag in even a small fender bender. :scared1:

ETA - OP I would find an print an article about a child who was killed by an airbag and give it to the cop.

:confused3:confused3:confused3

This happened in my area last weekend. I always put my DD in a car seat.

Toddler Ejected from SUV onto Busy Interstate

HALFWAY, MD - Maryland State Police say a three year-old girl went through the back window of her parents S.U.V. after a single vehicle crash near the interchange of Interstate 70 and Interstate 81 Sunday evening.

Officials say the driver of the car tried to make a last moment merge onto Interstate 81 Northbound, but lost control of the vehicle. After hitting two guardrails, the child was thrown from the vehicle and landed on Interstate 70.

She was rushed to Washington County Hospital, and from there airlifted to a trauma center. Police say her injuries could be life-threatening.

Her parents, were not injured in the accident. The girl was not in a child safety seat, nor was she wearing a seatbelt. Maryland State Police are investigating the incident.

I believe I read somewhere that said statistics reflect that most car accidents happen within 1.4 miles from home. It's just plain lazy to not put them in the proper restraints.

Not that I agree with her but the reason she doesn't put them in car seats is because the car isn't big enough for 6 people with 2 in car seats. What I don't get is why she just doesn't make them share a seat belt in the back ( not that that is any better!)

What is wrong with people? Seems like some of them are to stupid to be allowed to be parents. What ticks me off even more is the cop who obviously doesn't give a crap about their safety or the laws. :sad2:

How can you fix it though? Speak to the cop directly and ask him why he doesn't do anything? Call the police department directly? Confronting the mother won't do any good, it's quite obvious that she is an idiot and doesn't care about her childrens safety.

We have parents who do that crap at my kid's school, too. The other day at pick-up the car that was parked in front of mine took off before the kid in the back even had the door closed, let alone her seatbelt on. She almost tumbled into the street trying to reach out to close it. My next door neighbor doesn't wear a seat belt and doesn't expect her nine-year-old to either. She is a critical care nurse and should know better. There are some people who can't imagine that anything bad is ever going to happen to them and there are some people who act like every safety law is an infringement on their personal rights. All you can do is make good choices for your own family.

My step dad never wore a seatbelt. His first wife was killed in a car wreck. The seat belt cut the artery in her neck and she bled to death.

If the moms are carpooling why doesn't the one mom just pick up both kids? Why does both moms have to go?

The cop won't be smiling and waving when idiot driver gets into a collision adn these girls are injured.

:sad2:

Hard not to be judgemental when there is such a blatant disregard for safety and the law.

Yesterday when preparing to stop at the exit to my neighborhood (perpendicular to A1A)--had I been just 5 seconds late, I would have collided with a vehicle. She made a super wide and fast turn into my development. But b/c I had already released the accelerator it wasn't too much of a delay to slam the break and in her haste of a turn she realized she was heading right at me and she straightened out her car and stopped just missed hitting the stop sign.

She did apologize and said the reason for this hasty turn was b/c of what someone behind her was doing.

But bottom line--you never know when your number is up and surely--2 2-year old twins sitting in the front seat would not have stood a chance in such a collision. I was less than a minute from my house.

I am a ratter--I will rat people out who have such a disregard for children who very clearly are too young to be out of a car seat/booster situation. I would not hesitate to report this idiot (if you know that these kids are indeed 2 years old).

If I had knew who it as and had a tag number, I would strongly consider reporting it to the police dept of the crossing guard cop so that they are aware that people are doing this and perhaps a stake out would be in order to flag parents who do this.

No excuse what so ever for this crap.

I would stop, and I really would, and ask the police officer why he is not issuing a ticket. Then depending on his answer I would call his Sergeant.

Sorry for your step father but why is it that whenever a seatbelt issue comes up someone crawls out of the woodwork with an " I knew someone who was killed by the seatbelt" story? Statistically that is not the case.

If she lives right around the corner she should just walk and pick her kid up from school.

I carpool all of the time - the reason is so we can take turns picking up and dropping the kids. I have NEVER seen 2 moms carpool in the same vehicle - what is the point, especially if there are not enough seats? :confused3

Well first of all I did not crawl out of the woodwork. Secondly, I was trying to express why some people might not wear a seatbelt. My stepdad always said that he never thought something like that could happen until it happened to Liz (his first wife). My stepsister was driving the car at the time and pulled out in front of another vehicle. The police officer who worked the scene told my stepdad that due to Liz's size she would have been better off just wearing the lapbelt and put the shoulder strap behind her. The shoulder strap laid across her neck where it shouldn't have been. Even kids booster seats come with a piece you can use if the shoulder belt lays in the wrong place on a child's neck.

The mom with the twins only has 1 car which her husband uses. All of last year she would walk with the twins bundled up in the double stroller. She was walking in the beginning of the year until she met another mom who now picks her up. Most days she does leave the twins home with her mom but if her mom isn't home she brings them. She had them with her today but I didn't see if she was walking or not because they were playing in the playground when I left.

Then shame on both moms. One for being stupid and letting her kids in the front seat - and the other for allowing it in her car . My car my rules and I would never allow an improperly restrained child in my car.
