labeling clothes for camp

I bought labels when one child was in preschool. For others Sharpie worked well. For Boy Scouts name and troop number was needed, and this was different for Jamboree versus community troop. I think we had some blank sew-in tape that we marked with Sharpie and sewed in. I did order labels for a parent in assisted living.

Theatre Mom here- so everything must be labeled. Clothes and costumes get thrown around, mixed up, moved by others etc. backstage and sometimes they are all wearing the same outfit in different sizes. Pieces get thrown in others bags and boxes, and without names would never be seen again. For any clothes with tags, we use sharpies on the tags. For shoes we write in the shoes with sharpies (we use a silver sharpie if the interior is dark). For clothes without tags we use a piece of masking tape with the name written in sharpie and stick it in the clothes. The problem you are going to have with that is the laundry- I have washed her clothes with the tape in them and had it stay, but it might come off. I think you can find fabric tape or sew in tape that you can write on in sharpie and that is less likely to come out in the wash. I wouldn't mess with the socks. I know the trendy sports socks now can be about $20 a pair. I would try to keep those at home and send cheap socks to camp. I guess if all else fails and the expensive socks are going to camp, I might try to write on them with a lighter color sharpie that won't bleed through to the outside.

Wow- I just looked back at the first post and saw it was from 6 years ago-- those original kids full grown and probably in college now!!!

I just write their initials or name on the sole of the foot. That is to say, "wrote," because indeed, it's an old thread.

The DD I wrote about worked her last camp season last year and is a life guard this year since she is now a senior in college!

See my response above from 6 years ago -- I still stand by it. Sharpie works MUCH better than any iron on labels, and I have 6 more years of experience since I posted.

No, it's not as cute, but MUCH more functional.

Thank you for letting me know you don't know of a vendor that sells Disney labels. Bummer. I've used Sharpie in the past and it does work, but at 17 (actually 4 months shy of being an adult) and only tenting with one other scout of about the same age, I'm not really worried about them getting their underwear mixed up. Thankfully those days are over. This go around I was looking for something unique and cute for him and that he could also remember everytime he put the article of clothing on in the future. Maybe I'll go looking at the Mabel's Labels and see if they have something in Donald's colors.

But you were nice enough to reply so thank you again.

Totally completely 100% agree.

There's a website called "Mabels Labels". They are AWESOME and really really cute. They are primarily for younger kids but there should be some plain one's for the OP if she's interested. I can attest to the quality.. they are fabulous.

Mabels has peel & stick labels which I use for my mother's stuff at the nursing home. Name Bubbles also has peel & stick labels. (You go online and personalize them.)
