I was looking at information about the lab for 8-9 year olds. Several times it say activity time. What do they do during this time? My son really wants to pretend he is a scientist in a lab. Will he be able to do this during a 3 day cruise? Is he at the right age for this type of activity? Thanks

DD explained the difference in the activities between age groups s that the older the kids are the more "in depth" and "hands on" the activities are.

I checked the Navigators on Dave's site for the 8-9 year olds for the 3 day cruise and noticed that they're from 2002! I think if you look at the 8-9 navigators for the 7 day eastern http://www.dcltribute.com/navigators/east_carib/kids.htm you will see the more recent format which gives you lots more description about each activity. There won't be as many different activities on the 3 day cruise. Look at what they do on embarkation day, port days and Castaway Cay day to get an idea of the activities that might be offered on the Wonder.

Hopefully some of the Wonder cruisers can send Dave some more recent Navigators.

Some of the things I remember my kids doing were:
1) computer games (many terminals available)
2) playstation/xbox games
3) board games
4) knex/legos (they had a running competition for the length of the cruise, the kids just put their creations in a cubby and kept adding to them)
5) drawing/art type projects

Neither one of my kids complained of being bored during those times.

Enjoy!

We were on the 8/7 Magic and DS8 really enjoyed the lab. They got to make flubber! I don't recall anything truly scientific but the kids did get to do some work with a microscope and looked at fingerprints. In addition they produced and starred in their own video, created a mousepad (using digital photography and the computer), went on scavenger hunts and played with KINEX. There are a good number of computer games and also 2 Playstations that are available during "Stormin' the Lab". Surprisingly, my son was so involved in the activities and building with KINEX, he barely touched the video games (YEA!!!). The counselors also take the kids up to the Wide World of Sports Deck and play games, so there is some physical activity as well.

Making flubber was one of the highlights of DD8's time in the lab. She actually chose to miss dinner with the family in Animators Palette, just so she could make flubber. I actually don't think she did much more as far as science goes. Everything else was crafts, games, video & computer games, they did a game show, animation, dancing and sports up on the sports deck. The flubber wasn't done until the very last night.

They do have a very cool science lab set-up and I imagine that during free time, there are activities to do over there, but I'm not positive.

We have 2 boys that will be 8 and 10 when we cruise next Aug. They very much want to be together in the Lab - so I guess my only option is to try to move the older boy down into the 8/9 group? (I don't think they'll let the 8 year old move up since he won't be within 30 days of this birthday - is that correct?).
Anyone who had their boy in the 8/9 lab - do you think my 10 year old would be bored?

The ships have 3 seperate area's for the kids. One is the nursery, the other is the club and finally the lab. The 8-12 year olds are going to be in the same lab, they will just be doing activities that are more geared towards their age group. Have you checked out the navigators on the www.dcltribute.com site? It will give you an idea of what they do with the different groups and to see if your older son would be bored if he stayed down.
