Hi everyone,

I'm looking into trying out L.A. Weightloss but I wanted to get some advice from anyone here that has tried them. Has it worked ? What's the program generally about ? I'm wondering if anyone here has been really successful and kept the weight off.

Oh and what about cost. Are there differen't prices / packages ?

Thanks!

I'm not up in Canada, but I've dropped 3 sizes and 15 pounds on the program. What I love about it is that part of the program is maintenance, it teaches you how to maintain the weight loss. I've been nothing but thrilled with my results.

If you have questions feel free to pm me and I can easily direct you over to other great sources for info.

I had a friend who went on this diet. She loved it and did lose a LOT of weight on it. Unfortunately she very quickly put it all back on plus some. Within a year she weighted more than she did before. I looked at it but all the food has sugar subs in it and I can't have that at all. Also, I found that there really wasn't much to really teach you the amount you should eat. She hates veggies so well she was on the program and getting their food she really did eat them but of course to make her own she didn't.

Thanks for all the replies so far.

Tigercat, you mentioned "their food". So is their program similar to Jenny Craig where you need to purchase a certain amount of meals and then just add some fruit, vegetables to the diet :confused3 ? I don't want to have to buy packaged food again...although convenient at times it's just not going to help me in the long run. I was really looking for nutritional and exercise advice so it's probably best to see a registered dietician instead.

I also don't like the idea of aspartame or any sugar substitutes.

Anytime something special like a wedding or a trip is approaching I try to get motivated and lose weight but the day quickly comes and goes with me not losing any weight.

This time I am looking forward to our first cruise in Feb.2008 but I don't want to lose the weight just because of the cruise....I want to lose it for me!

Thanks for the replies everyone. I look forward to reading about anyone elses experiences and successes in losing weight and keeping it off.

She had their meals but also a meal replacement drink. At the time she was on the diet and she was out somewhere and then again while she was in the maintainance part of it she would tell me how she went somewhere and she had a hard time ordering because she knew she couldn't have it. After though I think it was just too tough to maintain that and it didn't work. For me I have given up. I go to the gym and work out usually about 3 times a week at least. I play baseball once a week and I run after at least one dgrdd once a week as well. I eat off of luncheon plates at home, and when I go out I take at least half my meal home with me. I love fruit and veggies but can only have so many salads a week because of a health problem. My body had problems with too many salads I don't because I love them. I can't eat wheat or dairy so any baked goods that I want I have to make and since I don't have a lot of time on my hands I don't bake a lot. I do have Hashimotos disease though so that isn't helping me. I try to watch what I eat and how much. I fill up very fast so don't over eat as it would make me very sick. I also make all the meals at my house from scratch so I know what is going in to the meal.

I don't know very much about the program, but I know someone who was on it who did not have to eat packaged meals from the company. I believe there was a booklet that broke foods into categories ("fruits" "vegetables" "protein" "fat" ect.) and you were to eat a certain number of servings for each category per day. One thing that I thought was cool was that they listed healthy options at restaurants (and fast food restaurants I think ) so you dont have to avoid going out to eat. Hope this helps and good luck!:woohoo:

I'm not from Canada...but saw this post and wanted to reply.

I am a Centre Director for Jenny Craig. If followed correctly, the program is designed to not only help you lose weight, but do so in a healthy way. We believe in increasing your excercise as well as following a healthy, balanced diet. Your consultation weekly help you stay on track and teach you how to maintain your weight, WITHOUT OUR FOOD.

I don't know if you tried Jenny Craig before, but from some of your comments, I would guess either no, or you had a consultant that did not do her job correctly.

I can't tell you how many of my clients have been to LA Weight Loss and not only lost a lot of money but either didn't lose weight or lost and gained it all back.

Just trying to make sure you have all the facts before making a decision. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best :)

I lost 2 sizes last year, and have been maintaining the loss. Currently I'm contemplating losing another one. I didn't go anywhere, but I started substituting club soda for Pepsi and beer. I still have the occasional beer or 2, but I drink soda like it's going out of style. Then, I cut back on my portions. I serve myself at home, so it's easy to figure what goes in me, and what goes in the dogs. At a restaurant, I look at the plate before I start eating, and decide how much of it I'm going to eat. That's important because your stomach doesn't tell you your full until well after the fact. I also take vitamins, so my body doesn't go into famine mode. And 100 calorie snack packs are wonderful, as are cheese sticks, and unsweetened fruit snacks.

When possible, I don't sit down. I'll think of a chore to do, or even stand and move slightly while I watch TV. I'm fortunate in that I'm within walking distance to work (4km), so I do that or take my bike, weather permitting.

The thing is, I looked at my lifestyle, and saw where my extra calories were, and where my bad habits could be corrected. I have never been hungry, and movement makes energy. If I misbehave, I just don't do it again for awhile. I don't consider it a disaster that discourages me and just has me go back to the way I used to eat. Diets don't work for me because I go off them. Changing the way I think about food and activity did.

I seem to recall 20/20 or a similar program doing an expose about L.A. Weight Loss about 6 months ago or so. I don't remember the details, but it wasn't good. You may be able to find more info online somewhere.

I'm not familiar with LA weight loss but I started loosing weight six years ago and now have 86 pounds gone...did you check out the WISH site on DIS it has some great info and I found it great reading other weight loss journals. My journal is "POOH bear saved my life". I took very small steps and changed my way of thinking when it came too food and once I started to loose weight the exercise came naturally.

Best of luck on your weight loss!

First I'd ask how much do you have to lose? Under 30lbs go for it. Ohterwise you are on a very restricted diet for too long and it is harmful to your body. You will pay for hte weeks they feel that you will need to lose the weight, bars that you need to eat sdaily, six weeks of maintainence and any other food supps you desire to purcahse form them, vitamins, supplements, teas, muffins, shakes, etc. Once you have paid for the weeks you need in full, and hopefully they sellyou a package for the bars they will try to get you to purchase at least $60,00 per week in other things. My very dear friedn was a director there, and I say was becasue she quit not being comfortable with the sell ups and pushing the extras. You do need to go in at least three times per week and you are expected to lose weight each time you weigh in. If you do not lose weight they will push something even if it is the herbal tea--laxative--to get you to lose weight somehow. FYI after six months on the diet I lost a good amount of weight, and my hair--my Dr. pulled me off the diet when I told him what I was doing and showed him the supps and my food diaries. Once I went off I gained it all back and 20 lbs. I am now working very hard to lose the weight and for only one reason ME! It has taken a bit more than a year to get where I am now and I figure at least one more year, but at only 1-2 pounds per week I'm sure it will not come back as long as I keep my habits and after almost three years when it is all said and done that should not be a problem!

Good luck whatever you decide. I firmly believe that any plan you are committed to will help you eat proplerly, exercise and keep your new habits and I think you'll be fine whatever you choose.

I joined LA Weightloss January '06 and by June of '06 I had gone from 239 to 177. They don't have meals they have suplements and protein bars. I must admit that in a year I have put back on 20 lbs but that is in part of some steroid medication that I was put on and from not totally watching what I've been eating. But the program does work I went from a size 22 jeans to a size 12/10. Here is a before and after picture of me. If you have any questions about the program don't hesitate to ask me you can PM me if you want to.
