LA area hotels

We're planning a vacation to So Cal the second week of August. We'll close with 3 nights at Paradise Pier but looking for a good hotel in the LA area for the first 4 nights. It's me, DW, DS (17) & DD (12). Looking for a decent neighborhood without spending a fortune.

The Clarion is a nice hotel, it's near the airport. I booked through hotel club months ago and got a room for 54USD, it's a 3 star. Last time I checked the rate had gone up a bit.
