I saw the clip on Larry King where John McCain told the people at a town hall meeting that Obama is not an arab but a "decent family man, American citizen, whom I happen to disagree with on some fundamental issues".

He also told another questioner "Barak Obama is a decent family man and I want to be clear, there is no reason to be afraid of Obama being president."

(My quotes may not be exact, but it's what I recall he said, feel free to correct me. I know it's pretty close.)

I have criticized McCain on here today for inciting hatred and I felt that it was only right for me to give him props for doing the right thing - even though the audience boo'd him. :thumbsup2

That was a good move on his part but it's a bummer that his running mate let the ugly and untrue genie out of the bottle. In the same clip, he also says to not let his (McCain's) comment curb anyone's ferocity. :sad1:

He's a day late and few dollars short but good on him for kinda trying.

I beleive john mccain is a decent man led down a dark path by rove and his ilk.....even he must now see the destructiveness of the past couple of weeks!!

I totally agree, all that had Rove's signature, they did it to him in 2000. I don't think McCain is a bad person, he just makes bad choices.

I think so too. I truly believe he feels disgusted by the direction of his campaign. However, he's being pushed into this negativity by the base and his advisors all telling him to "go after Obama" and "take the gloves off".

And if the smears hadn't backfired, he wouldn't kinda sorta trying to stop it, at his appearances anyway. His commercials are still a mess. :scared:

This action reminds me of the real John McCain--the straight talker who advanced issues and left the innuendo behind. I hope the spirit of his remark permeates the rest of the campaign. Perhaps we could spend the rest of the campaign talking about the issues.

I think we all agree that both McCain and Obama are honorable people who love their country. The issue is about which philosophy and which leader can best lead us at this point in our history.

Not at all untrue, which makes it ugly, but not on Gov. Palin's part.

I was very happy to see what he said. People are free to make their own conclusions on what they hear, but sometimes things need to be nipped before some of the rather nasty things start getting yelled at rallies. I may not agree with McCain's policies, but i'd never want to see anything bad happen to him based on things being said on the TV. Kudos to you John

Yep, I agree McCain has been drug down to the depths of the dirtiest campaigns.
I hope he can recover from this for the sake of any future career.
And Palin, I'll say it again, she's done.

There is a certain odd comfort in knowing what will be posted by some before it's posted. :goodvibes

My husband is a man of very few words. After watching the two comments made to McCain today at his 'town hall' meeting which forced him to defend Senator Obama my quiet husband said:

When you incite idiots you have to be prepared for those idiots to do and say idiotic things.

McCain incited idiots....

:thumbsup2 Exactly.

I do feel that McCain really understands now that while possibly a good campaign tactic, it's too dangerous for these people who don't actually investigate the facts and believe the emails they receive and word of mouth from wackos who think that Obama is everything scary and evil in the world.

It needs to stop and I'm glad McCain has at least started to concede that, it's too dangerous a path right now. I don't hate McCain's campaign for bringing the idea of this up...it's standard politics, but for some reason, people are suddenly completely scared of Obama and are turning to vile hatred.

No, Sen. McCain told the truth. The idiots were on their own.
