thinking of fast passing KS around 5-6, with sunset being around 5:30. how is it at dusk. does it give a different experience or is it too dark too appreciate it. TIA
Dusk is great! We did that before and you can still see the animals and they are moving around more. We were there in summer so it was cooler and the animals were more active. We skipped doing a night safari as we've read here that you can't see very good.
best time to ride that if you ask me. it's a very narrow window of when it's good to get moving though so don't make the fp+ for dusk, make it before it so your just finishing the ride as it's too dark to see. it takes about 10 minutes for fp+ to get through the line and into a truck (and start moving).

when I last did it, I was getting in line at 7:15 and it was completely dark at 7:50ish. I couldn't tell you what time dusk actually was that day. being a local I have a little advantage of knowing when it's completely dark so when I do my same day fp for the ride, I can pick the best time to get on and don't need to know when dusk is.
you might want to use this trick to modify the time of the fastpass once your on site and see what time to dark to see really is. I find modifying fastpasses in the afternoon of your ak day seems to be fairly easy to get a good time if your 1 hour window doesn't fall in when you really want to be on the ride.
