OK I give in, what is a krispy creme????????
I just started a thread about fair trade coffee (terribly serious social-conscience type stuff) and within a couple of posts everyone was discussing krispy cremes. Now I want one - and I don't even know what they are!!

Krispy Cremes are donuts or doughnuts however you spell it. They are a chain of donut shops that supposedly have the best donuts in the states. From what I've heard (we don't have any in Maine) the best kind to get are the plain glazed when they come right out of the fryer. I wish I could tell you more. If only they would open one in Maine............now I'm hungry too!

Krispy Kremese are mass produced donuts producst.
Similiar to Dunkin Donutes, but the donuts are supposed to be better. personally I had a few different kinds and only liked the glazed. the donuts are also very sweet. I think they are good(glaszed) the rest I didt like. but I prefer a local donut shop down here that makes the best donuts I have ever had.. and their real cream donuts are the best. :)

Just my opinion, but they are nothing special. They are very sweet and much heavier than the ones made at our local donut shops. If you get them IMMEDIATLY after they are fried they are pretty good but so are Dunkin Donuts and the ones from my local supermarket.
OK... now I want a donut!

As a native Atlantan (one of the few left!), I was raised watching for the HOT NOW sign to be on at the local Krispy Creme... this is really the only way to go. The are sinfully gooey and delicious... That is the only time I ever stop is if I see the HOT NOW sign on. I know they have Krispy Creme in Orlando, at least one by the Mall at Millenia, so check it out!!

I've never had a Krispy Kreme donut. I have read so much about them that when I went last summer with friends to Destin, Fla. and saw a Krispy Kreme drive thru I was excited! My friend had lived there before and she said, "they aren't nearly as good as a Southern Maid donut" which is a chain in our area. I wasn't driving so I NEVER got to get one but next time at WDW I will!

Coming to you from the world headquaters for Krispy Kreme!! Winston-Salem, NC. What can I say, they have to be experieced to be believed. If you have never had one and you have the chance to (especially when they are hot) DO IT!! I say this 4 weeks into the South Beach diet with a Krispy Kreme shop around the corner. Oh, I am starting to have a craving, I need to stop!!lol.

You have to have the glazed right from the fryer/conveyor belt when they are hot. They are very good. We can get them where I live in a prepackaged box at the grocery store and they are not as good. Our closest on is about 1 hour away. :( I usually have to wait to have any when we visit family in FL.

The chocolate custard filled is the bomb! The are like a mini boston cream pie type thing...yummy!! That paired with a hot plain glazed donut is to die for. They are better than any other donuts. I'll admit the glazed are pretty sweet, although sometimes trying to eat only one is a very hard thing to do. We have a Krispy Kream about a mile from our house, but we don't partake as much as we would like to.

This should let you know how popular they are here in N.C., most of the kids at my DD's school bring KK donuts for their birthday celebration rather than cupcakes!:hyper:

Being from New England with a Dunkin Donuts on every street corner, I tried a KK and talk about melt in your mouth good, WOW. Dunkin Donuts is nothing compaired to KK. There is one in MASS now but the lines are always long so I don't get them as much as I would like

I'm a Dunkin Donuts girl...I worked there for 13 years so I should be! I LOVE their coffee and no one will ever make me cheat on Dunkies when it comes to coffee BUT I do LOVE the Krispy Kreme glazed donuts!

I tried one down at WDW finally 2 years ago. We drove to the nearest store before our AK day. It was a great experience.

I then had a cold one in PA off the highway...not so great.

I then got another hot one last year at WDW; at the airport...wonderfully delicious!

Well, this past Saturday we drove 1/2 hour to our states' second Krispy Kreme opening!!! Yeah!! I can get them now almost anytime I want if I'm willing to drive 1/2 hour!!

Well, they were giving out free glazed donuts and free hats. Of course, we took them and said 'thank you'. We also bought our first dozen. I got 1/2 dozen glazed and then 2 choc frosted, one that looked like boston creme, and a caramel cream and a french cruller. Well, the glazed was the best hands down. My DH was not impressed. He doesn't care at all for Krispy Kreme...their coffee or their donuts. He's still a Dunkies man.

But my DDs and I will cheat on Dunkies from time to time for the glazed donuts!;)

But I must say that Dunkies other donuts beat KK hands down.

I love Krispy Kreme donuts :) I have to agree with everyone who says they taste best when they're still warm and have just been glazed! My favourite flavour was maple but they don't make it anymore :(

beattyfamily -- Do they have a Krispy Kreme outlet at MCO? If they do, I'll have to look for it next time :)

I agree that Krispy Creme doughnuts are way better than Dunkin's, and I can say this without ever having tried a KC while still hot. I had my first KC while waiting for the train at Pennsylvainia Station in NYC last summer.... I could not BELIEVE how good it was!:)

they sure do! It's in the food court of the airport. Near the Hyatt lobby...you have to walk on the moving walkway...

I grew up on warm Shipley's in Houston which I think taste the same as a warm KK. The outside texture of the donut is different but Shipley's has the exact same sweet, melt-in-your mouth taste to it. So, I wasn't blown away when I had my first KK.

Anyone else familiar with Shipley's agree with me?

Southern Maid had the best kolaches growing up but when I moved to Dallas after 10 years out of state the Southern Maid ham and cheese kolache was the same as Shipley's (I was very disappointed, they used to be round and stuffed to the gills).

That's my $0.02

When people talk about Krispy Kreme's doughnuts (which are great but in my opinion you have to be in the mood for them) they fail to mention how good the coffee is. I think their coffee beats Dunkin' Donuts hands down.

Krispy Kreme's are the best. I was raised on them while growing up in NC. Then my family moved to Pa and I had to go through withdrawl for the last twenty years until the grocery stores and Sheetz convenience stores started carrying them. I remember while I was visiting family last summer in NC my visit to a Krispy Kreme was like tasting them for the first time again. In my opinion, no donut can beat KK! I got my first scar ever falling and hitting my chin on the counter in KK. What memories! LOL

OOOh I need to run to Sheetz and get a dozen!

WOW! And to think Wall Street is betting on this low carb craze! If the DIS is any indication, the low carb craze is past and we're back to the high fat, large waistlines! You Go! Eat it if it tastes good! I know what you mean!

Just gotta put my vote in for that Krispy Kreme glazed donut. Hot Now! Man are those things good.

terribm, I lived in Winston-Salem for about 20 years. It has been quite a while since I've been there though.
