Kona??

I am wondering if Kona would be a good place for me to eat...is it good? I need to decide!!

It is one of may favorites, and usually you can walk-in, especially for lunch, without a reservation. I will often take people there rather than other Resort restaurants.

I love it too. My advice.....go late in the morning rather than first thing. It was crowded when we went early but really pleasant when we went late in the AM. Enjoy! Oh, and if you get the Tonga Toast, get the syrup on the side and use it sparingly if at all.

Amazing food...you can't go wrong with dinner or breakfast! If you have not been I strongly suggest trying it! It is a must do for us on each trip to WDW.

Have not eaten there, but made a reservation there for dinner in July...I am staying at the WL and Whispering Canyon Cafe is totally booked for dinner for my whole 6 day trip...so the WDW Dining rep said that this restaurant is one of the best "hidden" secrets in WDW...She said it is usually overshadowed by O'Hana...She raved about it and the menu looks great...I am looking forward to it...Good Luck

Kona is wonderful!
If you go for breakfast you must get the Tonga Toast (no syrup needed) and theY have wonderful coffee.
For lunch I love the hawaiian barbecue sandwich.
For dinner I love the Almond Chicken or the steak.
If you drink, the Wasabi Bloody Mary is to DIE for (and I don't like Bloody mary's ) And the Ohana Colada is HEAVEN!

We had lunch there last year and it was excellent. I have an ADR for breakfast this trip. Thanks for the tip on getting syrup on the side with the Tonga toast.

We had dinner at Kona Cafe and we loved it! Best prime rib i ever had. The wings for an appetizer were really good as well!

Out of a 6 night stay and six dinners at different establishments around WDW, Kona was by far our favorite. We celebrated my daughter's 16th B-day there, and had a blast.
The food is top notch and the service was excellent. The steak for dinner was melt in your mouth, and the Macadamia Mahi-Mahi was ab-fab! We will definately go there again for our next trip.

I've been there several times, and have found the quality to be diminshing. It was great the first time we went. Good the second time, and so forth. The last was rather disappointing. It really seems to be suffering from DDP. They have reduced the menu several times, raised prices considerably, and the last time we went our service was really bad.

I went my my in-laws who had never been. I raved about the place, since I thought it would realy be food to their tastes, despite my feelings of declining quality - and then we had embarassingly bad service. I felt bad for suggesting it.


One thing I can't stand in dining service- when the kids' food comes last - considerably last. I don't necessarily need it first- but a young child should not be waiting well beyond the rest of the table - esp at WDW. (And if it must happen - then they should offer the kid SOMETHING: bread, free dessert, crackers - SOMETHING. They didn't.) That was just one problem we had with our last meal there.

The food at Kona is good but the atmosphere was not to our liking. It is loud and crowded. The tables are cramed together. It fees like you are eating in a coffee shop. Our service was terrible as well. The desserts are wonderful though!! We won't be going anytime soon.

We had an unplanned brunch this past Easter Sunday at Kona and it was awesome! We love POLY and decided to stop in after mass at CR. We saw the line was relatively short at Kona and decided to catch a bite. Since DW and I are big brunch fans we ordered the eggs benedict with champagne while DD12 enjoyed the Tonga Toast. The meal was excellent and the service outstanding. Definitely try Kona.....

Kona is my favorite restaurant!! We are eating there our first night this year. See below (this is from my dining review):

Day 5 Dinner – Kona Café

This was my favorite meal of the trip and DH’s #2 (right behind WCC). We had an 8:20 ADR and arrived around 8:10; we were seated around 8:25. DD2 had fallen asleep while we waited, so they allowed us to push the stroller right up to the table and she slept through this meal (it was very quiet). The restaurant was about half full, probably because of the late hour and everyone was at ‘OHana and the Luau. Our server was Debi – the best server of the trip! She was wonderful – very friendly and outgoing.

Me – Kona Chowder, Teriyaki steak, Kilahuea torte, raspberry smoothie (Debi allowed on DDP), and Backscratcher (OOP $10.90)
DH – sticky wings, coconut almond chicken, chocolate macadamia nut tart, Coke
DD7 – chicken noodle soup, hot dog kid’s meal, strawberry banana smoothie, Kiddie Kone (again, Debi allowed her to have this instead of the special kid’s desserts)

The chowder was EXCELLENT – lots of big chunks of shrimp, fish, & crabmeat. This was even better than the lobster bisque at Coral Reef. The steak was the best I’ve EVER eaten, anywhere, period. Cooked perfectly medium, topped with pineapple chunks and the most delicious teriyaki sauce. The potatoes were good too. Debi kept joking I was going to float away because I had the smoothie (absolutely delicious), the Backscratcher (very stout, I was feeling a little woozy ; Debi brought the actual backscratcher out separately so it wouldn’t have liquor on it for DD7 to play with), and several water refills with my meal. I was so stuffed I could only eat a few bites of the torte, but it was DELICIOUS. I wish I could have eaten it all, but it just wouldn’t fit! DH said the wings were excellent, and the coconut almond chicken was one of the best chicken dishes he’s ever eaten! He enjoyed the chocolate tart, and was able to finish it with no problem – he said it tasted kind of like a pecan pie only much better. DD7 enjoyed all her food as well and ate more here than any other restaurant. She was full and didn’t eat all her Kiddie Kone, but she really enjoyed what she had.

Obviously, we will definitely be returning here! We are taking a short Mom & Dad trip in January, and this will probably be our 1 TS meal for that trip. A++++++

Cost – 3 TS credits = $109.56 (bargain!!)

Our only problem came when we were leaving – although not Kona’s fault at all! It was after 9 and MK was closed, so we had to take a bus to Downtown Disney and then connect with the Pop bus there. AND, the Luau let out at the same time we got to the Poly bus stop. So, we had to wait for the 3rd bus at the Poly, then when we got to Downtown Disney there was a huge line and we got the 3rd bus there as well. It took us over 90 minutes to get from the Poly to POP, all the while holding a sleeping 2 year old. Bad planning on my part – lesson learned – make sure your reservation is early enough to be over by park closing so you can ride the monorail back to MK! We wish we would just taken a cab, it would have been worth the cost.
