Kona vs. Ohana

I am gearing up to make our ADRs and need to decide between Ohana and Kona; keeping our budget in mind.

Ohana seems like a fun, exciting place for my family (me, DH, DS10 & DS11) to eat dinner; but we will need to purchase all adult meals because the boys will be considered adults.

Kona, on the otherhand sounds like awesome food, the kids can order off the kids menu (from what I gather), but not as exciting.

Thoughts?

Tough choice. 'Ohana is one of our favourite's at WDW and I am sure you will enjoy it if you are not a vegetarian. The biggest difficulty we have is leaving enough room for the amazing dessert.

That said, we tried Kona Cafe for the first time last year and my whole family agreed it was one of the best kept secrets at WDW.

Can't decide, I would recommend you do both. We did last year and intend to do the same when we go again this August.

Kona has the better food. Probably our favorite in all of WDW. But the experience is fairly average. Outside of the food, there's nothing special about the restaurant. And you can always find a great meal anywhere.

Ohana is fun, the atmosphere is great, and the food is good. It's a unique WDW experience, and that's what vacation's all about.

So if you have to pick one, I'd recommend Ohana. Maybe you can squeeze Kona in for lunch. It makes a great break from the Magic Kingdom. Just jump on the monorail.

In terms of cost, it really depends on what you'd order at Kona (entree, appetizer/soup/salad, dessert, drinks). Once you add everything up, the price difference could be fairly negligible. Plus with a large meal like Ohana, you mind find yourself eating a lighter lunch or skipping an afternoon snack (or an after-dinner snack). So that could factor into your overall costs.

They are both good! But i am a rather picky eater, so Ohana isn't the greatest place for me. I loved it, but there is no "menu" so my choices were really limited, but the atmosphere and everything else was very good. But Kona was perfect for me. I loved it! The food was good, and it had a very nice atmosphere as well (completely different than Ohana). You could do Kona for breakfast and get some Tonga Toast, or for lunch after a morning in MK or EP (just hop on the monorail) and then do Ohana for a dinner. Try both, but my vote goes to Kona!

I love both places. However, I give the edge to Ohana. My dds both loved the food and neither of them requested the alternate kids menu at Ohana. The atmosphere is great! We are going to try to go to both on our trip this year though. It is hard to pick. If you are wanting to save some money by eating at Kona, you will still get a great meal there. Have fun!

As previous posters have said, go to both if you can. But if you can only do one, I'd have to say go to Kona:goodvibes Ohana is fun, but I think Kona has better food.....especially if you like steak:thumbsup2 Their prime rib and filet are out of this world:cool1: :cool1:

Kona dishes are made to order and Ohana is not. We have found higher consistency in service and food at Kona every time. Most kids enjoy the dessert selection at Kona too. We gave Ohana another try in December after a series of poor dining experiences there only to find this place is living off its past reputation.

I know I am reviving an old thread, but I was curious if Ohana has tables for two, or if there are only two people, will you be seated at a larger table with strangers? I am trying to decide between Kona (which I love) or Ohana (where I have never been before). But if I have to sit with a large group, that would make me nervous.

Looove Ohana! Never been go Kona, but have only heard awesome things about it and can't wait to try it.

DH and I had our own table, just for 2 of us. And we were very late for our ADR because of bad transportation karma....We rushed up and apologized and asked if there was any way they could squeeze us in....they were very nice and gave us a atble with a great view.

Ohana is entertainment in addition to the food (which we did enjoy). Would your kids enjoy learning to hula and having coconut races?
Kona is excellent food. We have been for breakfast and dinner, both excellent. Breakfast is a "must do" for us. Try the tonga toast!!!!:thumbsup2
