I am thinking I made the right decision, going here the day before Christmas, I am not a big buffet person but I got 7:05 right when they sart so I figure I'll be ok. How is the food, I didnt care for Crystal Palace so will I like this?:santa:

Your title makes it sound like you are travelling from Kona to Chef Mickeys, but I see you mean, actually choosing Chef Mickeys over Kona, right? If not, I'm not sure what Kona has to do with it? Kona has much better food - it is a must do for us, as it's great food, atmosphere and service!

If you mean, will you like Chef Mickeys, as you normally dine at Kona, I'm not so sure, as you then say you didn't care for Crystal Palace, nor do you like buffets. It's the same thing as Crystal Palace - buffet meal with characters. You say 7:05 when they start, so I'm assuming you mean, breakfast?

Breakfast is normal breakfast food - nothing special at all with toast, fruit, bacon and eggs. Crystal Palace is a better buffet all around over Chef Mickey's though, as it's better organized, good service and food is much better (better for lunch and dinner, as again, breakfast food is nothing special).

Based on the info given, I'm not sure you are going to care for it, Tiger

To be honest, my family didn't care for chef mickey's. The food, to us, was not good. In comparison, we LOVE the crystal palace.

However, you'll be in Disney the day before Christmas! :santa: If it was my family I would probably still go to Chef Mickey's despite the food, and for the characters/atmosphere. It is classic disney! I would consider Chef Mickey's much more "festive" than Kona.

Have a great vacation! :goodvibes

If you are going for the food then Kona.
Like a PP we really disliked Chef Mickey's.
We really like Kona.

If you are going for the characters meal then that is a great experience, it is not about the food.

I love Chef Mickey's but I also love Crystal Palace. They are similar with everything, characters (although different ones) and the food.
Yes the food is very similar. There is a bit difference, but if you like one you'll like the other and vice versa.

So if it is food you are focusing on.....I would choose something else. You will most likely not like it.

Ooppps sorry I never make myself clear when typing questions. I changed from Kona to CM. I just thought staying at that hotel might be nice. I love going to Disney but hate deciding where and what time I wanna eat on a day that is months away. I fgured if I change my mind back I shouldnt have a problem getting kona back :santa:

I agree with some PPs that Kona's food is far better than CM's. We used to love CMs but it's declined so much so that even though you have opening time ADRs, you still might run into hard mashed potatoes, mac & cheese with a hard skin on top, etc.. We too thought at least if we were at opening time, the food would be fresher, not necessarily. They just keep making it so what they made a hour or so ago is what they are proabbly putting out first, Not the freshest stuff, and it showed. I don't mind buffet food since it's the characters we are going for, but the prices and food quality have just made it so that we won't return to CMs until it changes. Kona, we enjoyed though last time we were there, the waitress was severly rushed and not attentove at all. Brought food, checked once, never refilled drinks and then brought a bill. SO, I think property wide, it seems that all staff is getting squeezed. :guilty: I'll still return to Kona for the food and we're going to try Crystal Palace for the 3rd time to give it one last time. We didn't care for the food there either, BUT we wanted to get in before park opening for breakfast and photo ops, thusly, one more try.

We had our doubts when heading to Chef Mickeys, but we decided to wing it just the other night and give it a try. We were actually able to walk right up to Chef Mickey's and have a table for dinner 5 minutes later (granted, WDW wasn't too busy this past week). The dinner was excellent--typcial buffet style. They offered Roast Beef, Turkey, Pizza, Fried Chicken, baked chicken, pasta, shrimp, mashed potatoes, brocoli, mac and cheese, salad, variety of bread, fresh fruit, etc.

Actually at that time, you probably will have trouble getting a reservation at Kona. It's very popular, too.
