Can anyone tell me about Kona Sushi at the Polynesian? I know it's carry out/counter service, but is it hard to get a meal? Is the sushi decent? Do they take Tables in Wonderland card?

We are staying at the Polynesian and would like to know there's a non-fast food option for meals that my family and I might enjoy. If it's easy/relatively quick thought it might be a good one. Not so worried about getting a table (if need be can eat in our room) but if it's always mobbed probably not worth it.

I assume you're talking about eating at the Kona Island Sushi Bar itself. It's not quite carry-out. It's more like a lounge. There is bar style seating and you order your food from the sushi chefs behind the bar. I've only been there earlier in the evening and during low season, so I can't speak to what typical crowd levels are like. I'm not sure if you'll actually be able to take sushi back to your room, though. I don't think they package it in takeout containers. If you do want a place to sit down, everything made at the sushi bar can also be ordered in the Kona Café, which does take reservations.

Should you not want to eat the Sushi at their bar you can take it out and I have seen other guests doing that.

Now as for how busy they are it depends because when eating at the bar they don't take ADR's, so it's first come first serve and you need to wait until someone is finished before you can sit down. The best way to do that is waiting in the area and sitting down once another person leaves. However besides ordering Sushi guests can also order off the full dinner menu for the Kona Cafe, so that means they would be sitting there longer then those who just order Sushi.

My daughter ordered sushi as her dinner at Kona, using one TS credit for it. She said it wasn't the greatest sushi she'd ever had, but it was decent.

From your experience, how many sushi rolls were considered 1 TS? My DH is considering ordering the sushi on our next visit

I specifically asked how they count the sushi as a credit on the DDP. One specialty roll counts as the entree. IMHO, not a good use of a dining credit. (I feel the same about Beaches and Cream taking a dining credit, as well.)

I thought the sushi was decent, but it also didn't "wow" me. I'd go there again.

People have been reporting that the servers are not taking Tables in Wonderland at the sushi bar. I personally feel that if you can get a full Kona meal there, and even the Tambu Lounge accepts it when you order drinks at the bar, this place should. It's been a gray area since people have been posting that the sushi bar won't accept TiW.

At this time it's pretty much been established that they will NOT take the TIW card at the sushi bar, but you should ask. They might change it.

And it's not considered counter service for dining plan purposes, they take table service credits.

My daughter remembers being able to order (from the sushi bar) four kinds of rolls, about 5 pieces each. Hopefully she remembers correctly.

Just back from the Poly. Ate from the sushi bar 2x. Both times carried it back to our rooms in take out boxes. Fast, easy, and delicious. It was 1 table service credit. Since you get an appetizer with a table service credit you could get 1 roll (cut into 4's) for an appetizer and another roll (cut into 4's) for an entree. Yum!

To remind readers...you only get an appetizer on the deluxe plan.
