Kona or Ohana for dinner??? post your opinion here.

We are signed up for both on our upcoming trip. I have a lot of reservations about 'Ohana but I am willing to give it a try since it has been one of DH's favorites in the past. We have had breakfast at Kona Cafe numerous times and dinner once and have always had a great experience.

I have had numerous breakfasts/lunches at Kona and a few dinners at Ohana's. I enjoyed the food and the setting at Ohana's but it is a somewhat limited menu. I think I am growing tired of the 'buffet' style restaurants (to me Ohana's is like a buffet, they just bring the food to you) and would probably try Kona for dinner next trip.

Kona is by far one of the best TS restaurants in all of WDW. I rank it higher than some of the signature restaurants. Go and enjoy!

We have done both and we prefer Kona. Ohana is fun for the kids, but I think the meal is just ok. On one trip the meat was good, but on the next trip it was extremely dry. At Kona you can order your meat how you like it....make mine medium, please!

We ate at both in April and they were both good, but they are different.
I loved the food at Kona. We had a great meal our first night and I would recommend it. Everyone commented on how much they enjoyed this meal.
We also enjoyed 'OHana, but it is a very different experience. We were seated by the window with a wonderful view of the lagoon to the Castle. The kids enjoyed the entertainment.
Our food at 'OHana was very good, we enjoyed it, but it is not gourmet.
While Kona is not quiet, and although nice it does not have a special ambience, 'OHana is very noisy. I believe your choice between the two depends on which type of experience you are looking for and the ages of the folks in your party.
I would go back to both.

Do you think Kona or Ohana is better for dinner. Please state why.
this will be our first trip without going to o'hana.. also this will be our first time trying Kona... but for breakfast. i have high expectations!

We ate dinner at both in Dec and loved both. It was our first time doing Kona, but we had been to Ohana before. Kona was a wonderful surprise. We really enjoyed our meal there. The service was excellent too. My kids loved the sticky wings. The shrimp and scallop dish I got was wonderful. DH liked his steak a lot too. The tropical drinks were great too. We enjoyed it so much we are doing an early dinner there the night we do the MNSSHP in October! Ohana we are doing again because we always enjoy it. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice. :)

I would rate Kona as a solid "good", not on par with California Grill, Jiko, or Citricos, but solid. Ohana gets a whole lot of praise, mostly because they are an "all you can eat" restaurant, and people who can eat a whole lot like that. The quality of the food though, well, that's another story. We've been there on two occasions. Once with my 9 year old cousin, and I'll admit, he did enjoy the festivities. The other time we were with a large group of friends who had chosen Ohana. Both times the food was just "eh". All of the meat was dry, really dry. It sits on grills, all piled up...look as you come in. And it just dries out. If you ask for beef on the rare side they will bring it, but the cut of beef is just okay, and so it's still tough. I would definitely choose Kona...

Ohana with kids

Kona without...

or for breakfast for some coffee and tonga toast!!

IMO

We have three teens and ths time we chose Kona for dinner over Ohanas, yes we know Ohanas is all you can eat but its a little too busy for us and last time we were not too impressed by the service and the way they kept pushing the food on you. We left too stuffed. Kona was more relaxed and not as rushed. The only thing our one ds missed was the giant snowcone thing in the bucket. If you do have kids and want entertainment and are on the dining plan then I would probably go with Ohanas.

I can't say enough good things about Kona Cafe. After a disastrous dinner the night before in Les Chef de France, the food and staff at Kona restored my faith in WDW TS restaurants. My favorite meal starts with the crab cakes as an appetizer, followed by the Almond Encrusted Chicken accompanied by fresh greens with strawberries, pineapple and slivered almonds in a honey-lime vinaigrette dressing as an entree and the Chocolate Macadamia Nut Tart as dessert. Their beef selections are wonderful as well.

Ohana is a fun restaurant but it just isn't the same since they changed the way they serve things (shrimp not on the skewers, no more pineapple palate cleanser, etc).

I found myself in the same dilemma, and made my decision as we were about to be seated for dinner, racing back and forth between menus, we decided on Kona, and I am so glad we did, the food was delicious, the shrimp and scallop entree was one of the best meals I had all week!

We went at the beginning of May and ate at both Kona and Ohana. I would have to say Kona was surprisingly our best meal. The atmosphere, service and quality of food was outstanding. We enjoyed Ohana. We had a window seat for Wishes and it just capped off an already magical day. My oldest dd5 had a wonderful time with the games. The food was very good--we actually enjoyed the appetizers more than the meat. Saying all that, we will most likely return to Kona and not to Ohana. Our good friends are going in Nov. and my dh told them he was not that impressed with Ohana's food. If you already have plenty of kid centered dinners reserved, I would try Kona. It is kid friendly (like most Disney restaurants are), laid back and has excellent food. You won't be sorry.
