My friends and I are going to be at Walt Disney World in October and wanted to plan to stop at the poly to get breakfast before going to magic kingdom because we all want to try the tonga toast and can't decide if we should make the reservation and get it at Kona or just get it quick from Capt. Cook's? Any suggestions.

Capt Cook's does not give you the strawberry sauce which is an important part of the dish in my opinion. They do have regular syrup, but I don't like syrup.

Agreed - I tried Tonga Toast in August 2015 at Captain Cook's and thought it was okay, but nothing special. Tried it in August 2016 at Kona and absolutely loved it. For reference, I don't absolutely love bananas in baked goods, but the combo of strawberry and banana flavors was awesome. We have a reservation at Kona this summer for it!

I am a Tonga Toast aficionado. While staying at the Polynesian, its easy to go down to Capt Cook's and get the Tonga Toast to go, take it back to the room and enjoy while my family slowly gets ready. But I do find that the Tonga Toast at Kona Cafe is superior. Its just fresher, fluffier, better.

Thanks everyone. I think we are going to make the reservation and go eat a Kona before heading into Magic Kingdom.

I'd get the Kona reservation as early as you are comfortable.

I've experienced them getting backed up numerous times as the breakfast hours go later in the day needing to wait 30-45 minutes even with a reservation. Most Recently we had a 7:45 reservation and were seated in a nearly empty restaurant but nearing the end of our Breakfast around 8:30-8:45 there were already several parties waiting outside.

I'd recommend both the Tonga Toast and the new Eggs Benedict that replaced the Samoan.

Have you tried the new Samoan replacement? The Samoan was my favorite dish anywhere. I about cried when I found out it was gone. I cancelled my breakfast. But, I can always get another one. LOL

Yes! It's fantastic! I prefer it over the Samoan having had the Samoan a few times prior to the changeover.

The pork belly was well trimmed and not overly fatty and cubed into 1/2 inch cubes making it easy to pick up with the rest of the stuff. The Citrus Chili Hollandaise although it sounds adventurous is pretty subtle and complimentary to everything else, I loved that it was served on Hawaiian rolls too. I will be going back AT LEAST twice on our next trip.

The day before we had the Butter Poached Lobster Benedict at California Grill's Brunch and I can easily say that I prefer this new one over the one at California Grill even with the Butter Poached Lobster option

You convinced me. I just booked an 8:55 on our last full day. Which is what we usually did anyway. We always ended our trip with breakfast at the Poly. Now if only we could stay there. My life would be complete. :rotfl2:

Hopefully you enjoy it as much as I did! Enjoy!

We are booking or stay on Friday and going to book our reservation for Kona then. I'm excited for it though bc in years past i have only ever eaten quick service for every meal.
