Someone, anyone, please tell me what I am missing.

I've gone there twice now - once in December, once last week. Honestly, I LOVED my Island Sunset drink, and my chocolate dessert. Other than that, I found the food to not that great, yet people RAVE about it.

Between my husband and I, we've tried
Pot stickers
Crab cakes
Filet Mignon
Prime Rib
Macadamia Crusted Mahi
Shrimp and Scallops

None of which were that great, especially the crab cakes and the shrimp and scallops. Did I hit 2 bad nights? I just don't get it.

Well I agree with you about the island sunset drink, and the chocolate lava cake, which are both yummy. (That drink is my favorite in Disney.) But I've also tried many of the other things you've mentioned, and enjoyed them all. My favorite entree there though is the pomegrante BBQ pork chop. TigerKat will probably agree with you though, I don't think she's been impressed by Kona either IIRC.

First, OT, as a dad-to-a-redhead, gotta love your username...

Second, nope, not two off nights, just the wrong meal I think. We've done dinners & b-fast at Kona and while we enjoyed the dinner, we too found it nothing special. Most of the raving I've seen on the DIS focused on the tonga toast & fresh pressed coffee, so we did a b-fast there too and I have to say I really enjoyed the macadamia nut pancakes, but the tonga toast was a bit too sweet for me (and that's saying something b/c I've got a major sweet tooth)...that being said, I did enjoy it and would certainly go back again for a b-fast, but only if I were staying at the Poly. As for a dinner, I'd probably only do it again if I needed an "in-house" option for a trip with the DDs (again staying at the Poly) and couldn't get O'hanas...otherwise, I'd explore other options to see what else I might enjoy more....

I think we kinda get spoiled. My soon to be wife and I went for a birthday dinner at a little italian place near our home. I had eggplant parm. The portions were small and the food, just okay. Weve been there before, which is why we went back, but i didnt remember being so skimpy. Were used to the red lobster and friday's portions for half the price. I think we get spoiled, because the chains really do give you tons of food. I think red lobster advertises a full pound of linguini in their pastas. I would imagine olive garden would be the same. I paid almost 20 bucks for 4 slices of fried eggplant, and maybe 1/4 of pasta. Lame.

I want to add that as much as I love Kona for dinner, lunch isn't a must-do for me. It isn't bad, it's just that I always make a point of making a dinner reservation instead of one for lunch.

So maybe we'll give it another shot for breakfast...

I LOVE good coffee, so that alone will probably be worth the trip.

We went last Oct and loved our drinks (they came from the Tambu Lounge that services Kona and Ohana), the wings were out of this world, fantastic mixed baby greens salad, killer bread and butter, great teriyaki steak. I ordered the shrimp noodle dish and personally didnt like it at all beause it was so sicky sweet and had way too much pineapple and peppers in it for me.

I would go back there in a heartbeat!

I've only had dinner there once, and enjoyed it. But breakfast at Kona has become a family tradition. We've been going since back when it was the Coral Isle Cafe, and we've always had good meals there.

Different strokes, I guess.
