Kona for dinner

Great Food:thumbsup2!

Even if you do not have any kids in your party someone should order the Kiddie Kone for dessert. Its such a fun dessert

As everyone else has been saying...BOOK IT! It is the first resturant we eat at on our vaction. Kind of a tradition. It is like a diamond in the rough! We have eaten there 3 times now plus we have an ADR in Oct. and will be making one for our March trip!

Save me a table! Party of 4 w/ a highchair!

I am agreeing with everyone else. Kona is awesome. We eat there at least once every trip. The teryaki steak is amazing. My DH loves their sticky wings appetizer too. We haven't been back to Ohana's since we tried Kona's. BTW, the breakfast is really good there too.

Disney's food has not been that great for me. I will say that Kona was the best meal we had on our recent trip. I will go back there. The next time I will try breakfast.

Oh it is so worth it to take a trip to the Poly just for dinner... the Macadamia Mahi Mahi is delish!

SHHHH...stop telling everyone Kona is a great place to eat. Now everyone is going to want to eat there!

Seriously, go for it! It is up there with LeCellier as one of the best places to eat.

I was wondering if anyone can answer a few questions about the food:

1) how are the shrimp and scallops? Panko doesn't have really much flavor on its own, so I was wondering if the shrimp is bland?

2) Which is better, the filet or the sirloin? And is the teriyaki flavor very strong on the sirloin?

3) How the heck do you keep the kiddie kone from falling over? ;)

We've been many times to Disney, but our last trip we tried Kona's. Best dinner we've had at Disney in years. I highly recommend it. We went twice. The service was great, too.

We are staying at the Poly the second week of December. I have all kinds of adr's for all of the parks, but had just planned on scooting down one morning for breakfast at Kona. Am I being naive? Do I need an adr for this one?

Thanks!!
Maggi

I think if you have any interest in eating at a resort restaurant, it's worth checking out. It's so much fun touring the resort you usually don't get to see. Especially something like the Polynesian.
Sorry, I can't help you with the food, I've only eaten there for breakfast. And that is one of my biggest regret is not trying it for dinner.

We always make a trip to Poly for dinner at Kona. . .it's become a trip tradition!

This restaurant is one of my favorites. A total hidden gem.

Never had the shrimp & scallops...but I had the filet last week and DH had the teriyaki. I loved my filet BUT I loved the teriyaki sauce on DH's steak. It was not too strong, just right.

For dessert, I always get the banana creme brulee. HEAVEN!

Ratana was our server, he was so good I sent in an email giving him kudos.

I am dreaming about that Teryaki (sp?) Filet with the yukon potatoes. Ah Heaven!:cloud9:

I hear they have good desserts and coffee as well.

Kona was my 2nd fave meal in WDW (a close 2nd - to LeCellier). We did stay at the Poly, so it was also very convenient, but it's DEFINITELY worth a trip over there. Especially since you can take the monorail. Food was wonderful! Yummy smoothies, I had the filet with Yukon mashed, soooo good. The wings were good too. And I LOVED the Kileau torte for dessert. As others said, if you have time, walk around the resort a bit, it's truly gorgeous. Maybe a late dinner ADR, then stay and watch Wishes on the beach?

Oh I'm so glad I found this thread. I made an ADR for Kona as a surprise for my sister. Too bad she walked in while I was making the ressie and it's no longer a surprise. :rotfl2: We've never eaten there, but I thought it would be perfect since she's a coffee addict and the whole "kona" coffee thing. I'm a dork. :lmao: Anyway, all of the wonderful things y'all have said about this restaurant are making me really excited for it! I can't wait! :D

Another one supporting all that has been said allready! I went to Kona for lunch (quickly found out that I liked getting out of the heat around 1 and lunch was great for that) and it was like Oh My God. I want some crabcakes right now, right here! Not only was the service so quick it was almost ridiculous (order what you want and get the appatizer within 3 minutes!) -at no point was I rushed, they asked if it was ok to bring it out so quickly or should they make others later-, but the food was BIG! I had a sandwich and the older couple sitting at the next table also had sandwiches. Let me just say that the whole plate was definately covered in sandwich and chips. The chips are another thing; very good and well seasoned. The kilaue (spelling?) torte just rapped it up beautifully. Again very good, good preportions of chocolate versus brownia and the red and yellow jam-like decorations where the perfect taste to change from time to time.

It was a very quite relaxed atmosphere with nice servers. Downside to me was it being in the mainbuilding and the monorails running through there. It was more bothersom than at CM (probably because Kona is a lot quiter) and really more or less annoyed me.

I go to Kona almost every trip. I have never had a bad meal there, and I really like the menu. Plan it on the day you are going to the Magic Kingdom--it's a quick monorail or boat ride away. Order the sticky wings, and save one for me ;)
