I've heard that Kona and Contemporary Grounds have GREAT coffee (or at least, much better than the regular Disney coffee) :thumbsup2

First question: anyone have a preference? DBF and I both drink regular coffee and fancy espresso drinks (depending on our moods). I expect to drink iced coffees/espresso drinks since we'll be there over Labor Day week and I know it will be HOT!

Second question: how much time will it add to take the resort monorail instead of express (which we do sometimes anyway, if the line is long), get off, walk to Kona/CG, wait in line, get our drinks, walk back to the monorail station, get on a monorail, and get to MK? Should I plan on an additional 30 mins? More? Less?

Thanks :goodvibes

The coffee at Kona is excellent, and worth the trip. However, the cup they sell at the coffee counter there is a drip-brewed Kona blend, and is not worth going out of your way for. Sit down in the restaurant and get the 100% Kona press-pot, or find something else (that isn't Nescafe) on your route-- there are a few spots.

They do serve Kona at the Kona Cafe but not all day. I think they close at noon or 1. I only drink black coffee or straight espresso so I can't help you on the fancy drinks but I imagine anything made with coffee will be made there with Kona instead of the Nescafe swill. I also drink hot coffee even in the middle of a Florida day but I know I'm odd like that.

I think 30-45 minutes would be sufficient to take the resort monorail to Kona, get your coffee, and get to MK.

The best coffee at Disney IMO is the press pot at Boma but you can get a list of other places that serve real coffee here. The Nescafe stuff is made from a coffee concentrate paste and is pretty much undrinkable.

Well if your coming from the TTC it would be faster going to the Polynesian and going to the Kona Island Coffee Bar since they are next stop along the Resort Monorail and from the TTC you can also walk there.

Should you want to go to the Contemporary Grounds that would mean taking the Resort Monorail to the Polynesian, Grand Floridian and Magic Kingdom before it arrives at the Contemporary. However the major plus in that is from the Contemporary you can use their walkway to the Magic Kingdom, which is about a 10 minute and it means not getting back on the Resprt Monorail when going to the Magic Kingdom.

The past several years we've been staying at the CR/BLT ( got hooked on CR, bought at BLT). Most mornings start with a cheese Danish and coffee fromcontempoary grounds. The coffee is good, much better than the normal. Disneyworld coffee. We usually also head to the kona cafe twice for coffee and tonga toast. For me, nothing beats kona coffee. Even at home I buy whole bean kona blends.

So the coffee at both places is good. I'd say for convenience go for the kona coffee. As others mentioned it the first stop on the resort monorail. Yu could then jump back on the monorail, or you could even take the resort boat to the park.
