I am planning a short trip for next october with my kids (will be 6, 4, 4 then). have decided on the poly, we have never stayed there (always stay epcot area) so am checking out the restaurants. is kona better for breakfast or dinner? I keep hearing about tonga toast, but it sounds soooo sweet. is it cloying? is it an okay place to take young kids to?

also, how is captain cooks? any pictures???

You can get Tonga Taost at Captin Cooks also. Captin Cooks it the counter service at the Poly. I've never been to Kona but have read great reviews. We love Ohana's with the kids. The food is great! The kids can order chicken nuggest... if they don't want want is served. It's a great family time! You may want to think about it. They do coconut races with brooms, the limbo.. The kids stay entertained.

We love Kona and go at least once, usually twice per trip. The breakfasts are very good and the dinners are wonderful. Captain Cook's is good for breakfast or lunch, but for dinner I would definately go to Kona. Have fun!!!:)

Our trip in Dec 07 - Kona's was one of the best dinners we had. Great Food!
Captain Cook's - counter service - good if you are in a hurry or want to take the food with you. One of our family traditions is breakfast at O'Hana's on departure day - grandkids (5 and 3) - LOVE IT!

It really depends on the amount of time you want to spend on breakfast. IMO, Kona is better but much more expensive. You can find a few of the same menu items (including Tonga Toast) at Captain Cook's for a lower price. I would try Kona for breakfast at least once though. :)

We love Kona for dinner, and have enjoyed the 'Ohana breakfast in the past (pre-Stitch!).

We went Kona two days in a row last week for breakfast even though we stayed at Pop. We loved the Tonga toast. Not too sweet at all, I don't ever eat syrup because it is too sweet for me. And both my toddlers did fine there. They were able to share a kids meal without a problem and the restaurant wasn't too crowded, so when they acted up, they didn't seem to bother anyone.

The Tonga Toast is very sweet AND very rich -- it's basically deep-fried. If I order it, I share it with someone who gets eggs and we split. That works out well.

Kona has wonderful breakfasts and good service. Wonderful coffee if you are into coffee. My family always goes there on our last morning, after check-out, because they serve late and we can be seated around 11:10. They have a wonderful fruit platter that is my favorite. You get a piece of banana bread and a piece of a big muffin and the most delicious fresh fruit. It comes in a pineapple!

FYI, some of the a la carte items at Kona are actually CHEAPER than the breakfast items down at Captain Cooks, like the cereal. My daughter doesn't eat much at breakfast and always orders Fruit Loops, which we do not normally have at home. They charge less than they would downstairs at CC for a small box of cereal plus a milk container.

If you are in a rush, CC is a great place but if you want a nice breakfast in a lovely setting you can not beat Kona Cafe!
