I have read the menus (adults & kids) and have seen a few pics posted online. So far so good...
However, I would really appreciate info on the atmosphere at dinner!
Here's are the ages of our gang: 2,5,9,18,21,24,29,40 & 50
I can't decide between Kona or OHana for dinner! :scratchin

We always have a great meal at the Kona Cafe. It is located on the left side of the lobby of the Poly. It is an open area restaurant. It is noisy; similar to a buffet. While we were there in December, we saw several large groups having dinner.

We went in April and ate dinner at both. I would pick Kona way before I went back to Ohana's. Ohana's was dirty and had a set menu, which we did know about, no surprise there, but my DS7 was not thrilled. Kona, on the other hand, was fabulous! We had great service, delicious food and were absolutely happy. It was noisy, but no more than every other busy restaurant in WDW. By the looks of your party you aren't planning on a romantic dinner for 2. :rotfl: We certainly will return to Kona. Hope this helps.

My vote goes to 'Ohana. They recently changed the menu, and I think you will be pleasantly surprised! I also went over a year ago and was NOT happy at all! I decided to give it another go, and boy am I glad I did. It is now a MUST DO for us on all future trips!!! :thumbsup2

We ate at both and liked both. They are different though. Kona is more of a traditional sit down meal. The food was awesome. Ohana's is more fun. There is hoola hoop contests, coconut races and hula lessons. Our kids love it there. The food is good but it is a set menu. I think you need to decide what type of atmosphere you are looking for. Both are on the loud side but that doesn't bother us at all. Have fun!

I just posted a similar response to someone else regarding Kona. We liked the food, but really did not like the atmosphere. I just felt like any and everybody walking by was checking out my dinner. It was very uncomfortable for us. It's very open air and everybody walking by can see everything.

OHana would DEFINITELY be our pick. we like the food. As far as little ones not liking the food...you can get anything you want for them. It's not on the menu, but they can get whatever...pb&j, mac and cheese, chicken fingers, etc. Not only that, but they have a hula hoop game and coconut races and fun for the kids. The real menu is awesome for the adults. and there is a great view of the castle at MK from the windows. (Can you tell that we LOVE O'Hana?) :goodvibes

We've dinned at both and loved both. Actually both restaurants are loud. If you don't like the "open" atmosphere of Kona, ask for a table away from the lobby.

In June 2001 we had a family trip to WDW. The afternoon of our first full day during our down time at the pool my son it law wrenched his shoulder out of the socket while playing with the kids. After the ambulance, ER, finding medication, it was 9:45pm and we were all starved. There were eight of us. We went to Kona's. They were empty and cleaning up, but they looked at us, took pity, and served us one of the best meals ever.

Another trip my DD, DGD, and I stopped in on our way to our room at CR for a chocolate lava cake after a full day at MK. We didn't realize how late it was and that they were closing. They looked at my DGD's face of disappointment and made dessert to go complete with real plates and silverware.

Since then Kona is one of our must do's and we have never been disappointed.
