We are looking into either Kona Cafe or The Wave for dinner. Want a relaxing atmosphere for adults but also kid friendly. We are 2 adults, and 4, 7 year olds. Can't decide. Which one would you pick and why?

Thanks!

The Wave was quieter...it's a completely "contained" restaurant. Kona Cafe is open to the huge multi-story Polynesian main lobby, and is right next to the very popular bar. LOTS of noise from the lobby, all the people waiting to be seated for 'Ohana, bar noise, etc.

We loved the food at both restaurants, and there were kids (all ages) at both places. But The Wave was much more relaxed and quiet.

Hi, We ate at The Wave in July and were quite impressed!! Very nice atmosphere, food was VERY good and we had a great waiter!! I predict it will become one of those VERY POPULAR restuarants!! :thumbsup2 Joan

We like both but agree with PP that Kona is much louder and we also have felt rushed there. Next time will speak to the waiter at the beginning of meal about the fact that we are not in a hurry!

Read the menus and see which appeals to you more. We enjoyed our meal at Kona but haven't tried the Wave just because the menu doesn't do much for me. We are kind of meat and potato people!

Visiting the Poly is a treat in itself. The lobby is pretty impressive. And we enjoyed just sitting on the beach for a little while because we were early for our ADR.

But the Contemporary also has a nice beach. Either is very convenient to get to from the MK. We used to eat at the old Concourse Steakhouse and really miss it.

We have had dinner in both and I think Kona is more kid friendly. The Wave is quieter, more sophisticated and more geared toward adults. Having said that, it IS Disney and whatever you chose will be fine. Have fun.

We've had dinner twice at the Wave (most recently about 10 days ago). At Kona, we had lunch twice (including Sunday) and dinner three times.

We really like the food at the Wave. DH had steak and said it was excellent. I had the fish--and really liked it. Desserts are good. It's quiet but also relaxed. Our server was very, very good, better actually than our servers at either Citricos or Narcoossee's.

We like Kona but think the quality there has really slipped, and in fact, we left it off our ADR list for our recent trip (though it worked out for lunch as we were on the way to the airport). It's noisy, as others have said, and the dining room is very crowded. Food was good in 2006, slightly less good in 2007, and then very disappointing in 2008. DH in particular does not like it.

One other perk with the Wave is that the tables are spaced nicely, so you will not be on top of other diners.

In December, we'll be returning to the Wave, but not Kona unless we stop in for a quick lunch.
