We are eating breakfast for the first time at Kona Cafe during our Christmas trip. I would love to try the Tonga Toast, but don't know that I want that to be my entire breakfast. How sweet is it? Maybe my DH could get one of the selections with eggs and we could share both meals. Any suggestions?

Thanks ::MinnieMo

My wife and myself just came back from WDW a few weeks ago, and we ate at Kona several times. My wife ordered the Tonga Toast and I would order an omlette and we would split them. Kona has become our favorite place to eat breakfast at WDW. I fyou drink coffee there Kona Coffee is tops.

That is what my sister and I do. She orders Eggs Benedict and I order the Tonga Toast. We each eat half and then switch plates!

Tonga toast is very sweet and alot like pastry. Defiantly solit something to go with it.

I am in the same boat as you. I never had tonga toast and will be trying it on my upcomining Xmas trip. I'm usually up for anything so I probably will just order that. But getting to different items and sharing them, is the way to go.

I love sweets, but found this too sweet. Splitting an order and getting some eggs with it sounds like a great plan. And I'm not a huge banana fan --- but I've read (don't have personal experience) that the chef will substitute other fruit, such as strawberries. Enjoy!

i got it once and only like uncooked bananas but I actually liked this except it was sweet enough to be a dessert .I would split with eggs or some other protein unless you like something really sweet first thing in the morning. ( I think it was even sweeter than pancakes with fruit syrup which give me a sugar crash by 10am!)

Thanks, everyone for the suggestions - I think we might get 2 breakfasts and split them. I wish they had a combination dish that included a small portion. It seems like a lot of us are in the same boat. That sounds interesting to substitute strawberries for the bananas. Has anyone actually done this and was it good?

Thanks again.

I had the Eggs Benedict at Kona Cafe right after they changed from Coral Isle Cafe. They were the foulest EB that I have eaten in my life. Dry, hard, just plain yucky. They appeared to have been left under the lights for a long time after they were prepared. We ate dinner there a year or two later and the steak I ordered was all gristle. We won't go back there again.

I like the EB at Boatwrights much better.

Wow, I would have sent both those dishes back!
Unfortunately you have had bad luck at Kona, which is a shame because their food is usually very good.
We do the same thing and split the Eggs Benedict and the Tonga toast and both have always been great.
We also love Kona's Beef Teriyaki salad and the sticky wings for lunch or a light dinner.

Actually, I did send them both back. By the time I would have gotten any food, both my son and husband would have been done eating, so I declined anything else. Also, I was no longer hungry after trying both of these meals.

What was amazing was the manager's response to my inedible Eggs Benedict. He stated that they made the best in WDW and thought they looked okay.

DH and I also split an egg meal (usually Eggs Benedict) and the Tonga Toast. Make sure you try the TT first without any syrup - it's very sweet, and I can't imagine adding syrup to it, although I know some people prefer it that way. I tried to order it with strawberries once, but was told they didn't have any, so I happily settled for the regular banana version. We have breakfast at Kona on every trip, and we've always been very pleased with our meal.
