My latest issue with Kohl's is... I bought a bunch of stuff with a 30% off coupon, and I used some Kohl's cash on the purchase. When the total came up, it was a lot more than I expected. The reason is that they deducted all of the Kohl's cash BEFORE they took off the 30%. So, I bought $100 worth of merchandise, used a 30% off code and used $50 in Kohl's Cash. I expected to pay $20, which would be $70 ($100 - 30%), minus $50 Kohl's Cash. Instead, they put in the $100 of merchandise, then deducted the $50 Kohl's Cash; then took off the 30%, making the total $35.
I thought that was pretty shady - I mean Kohl's Cash is supposed to be like cash, and a 30% discount is supposed to be taken off of all of the merchandise you purchase. I don't know whether that is the policy or whether the clerk make a mistake, but I let it slide since I didn't feel like arguing about it.
I wonder if you could have them ring up the entire purchase, take the 30% off and then after they have totaled everything, pull out your Kohl's cash. I agree....very sneaky.
Hi fellow Coloradans! I'm in Denver![]()
Also, don't forget 30% off is not really 30% given Kohl's inflated prices. Granted, we do get some good deals at Kohl's, but their "regular" prices are outrageous compared to other retailers!![]()
I am amazed how many CO people we have just here in this little thread
I just did a return today at Kohl's and one of the items was on a purchase I earned Kohl's cash on. I lost the ENTIRE $10 because returning that item dropped the original purchase to less than $50. That really stinks! In the past, you were given an option to take the return in store credit and keep the Kohl's cash but that option is no longer. So, I'm none too happy and this will impact how much I shop there.
What you can do in this type of situation is use the $10 Kohl's Cash...and then go back in the store and return the item. This way the Kohl's Cash is already used and there is nothing that can be done. Call it sneaky, but it can be done.
I didn't realize they had changed the policy in regards to returns with gift cards or Kohl's Cash. For those of you saying you got a store credit....this could be something that has changed. I have not had to return anything lately.....so I am not sure.
I had already used the KC. That is why they took $10 off the top for "redeemed Kohl's cash". It's their new policy.
OP Here. We are talking two different things here, but to address the Kohl's cash issue, they have for a long time taken the $10 off your return of an item purchased that EARNED the Kohl's cash if you used the Kohl's cash, then later returned an item in the transacation that EARNED it.
Example: I buy $50 worth of towels (let's say 2 towels at $25 each) to earn my $10 Kohl's cash. I come back later and use my $10 Kohl's cash to buy a pair of shorts. I then later return one of the towels -it will return the towel at $10 less (now $15 instead of the $25) to account for the Kohl's cash you have already used on that pair of shorts.
BUT my issue was with a gift card issued in a mailer for $10 as a birthday bonus for me.
Hope that helps!!
Not sure if we are talking about the same thing, but we might! I was talking about buying something with $10 KC.....not returning the item, but returning another item from the transaction that had issued the KC....after you had already used it on another item in a different transaction. All this sounds confusing when I read it back to myself....so I am not sure if it is even understandable![]()
Sorry to high jack your thread but I have another question ref: Kohls return policy: I was wondering if anyone knows if they have changed any other pieces of their return policy, like you can return items without a receipt if you purchased with their credit card or return items that were purchased more than 6 months ago if you have your receipt?
Thanks

It does sound confusing, doesn't itI do think we are talking about the same thing. Kohl's policy changed about a month ago. If you make a $50 purchase, you earn $10 Kohl's cash. You spend that Kohl's cash. If you go in later and return an item from the original $50 purchase that earned the KC, you will now lose $10 off your return. Taking your return as a store credit and keeping your Kohl's cash is no longer an option. So, I *think* we are talking about the same thing

You know what - you are right!! I forgot that if you took it as store credit, they used to let you keep the $10 credit of Kohl's cash. Oohhhh my aging brain!
I am going to edit my previous post to note my mistake!
Yes!!! They did used to do this, up until about a month ago. I have done it for years. And I always spent even more when I'd go in to use that store credit so they definitely made money off me. But I guess, in general, they lost money on this deal or they wouldn't have changed their policy.
My brain is aging and mushing too![]()
I don't think there have been any changes regarding items you mentioned. I had several returns today. One was without a receipt and they gave me the return on store credit. A couple of my items I did not have my receipt for so they used my Kohl's charge to find the prices. The only difference I noticed was with the Kohl's cash.
I believe that if you used your Kohls credit card they can look it up for you if not they will give you a store credit for what they are selling it for now or you can do an exact exchange for the same item but different size or color.
