Really fretting over which digital camera to get my DD7 for her first point and shoot camera. I hear good things about most Kodak Easy Shares, but I also read a LOT of great reviews for the Panasonic Lumix. It's priced a bit higher than a Kodak, but I think the video is much better than Kodak.

Any thoughts? I need some help with this choice. Thanks!

Kodak Easyshare cameras are so easy. I have the Z650 and the video is excellent. I like that I can hand it to anyone to take a picture and I dont have to give them a 10 minute explanation on how to use it.

I second the Kodak Easyshare. It's what we gave our DD last year for Christmas. She was 6. I use one myself as well. They take good pictures and are easy to use. If she's more concerned with taking videos, get a little video camera that takes stills as well.

I love our Lumix. My sister has the easy share. She is always screwing up the settings.

I have a Lumix and it is FANTASTIC. Mine is on the higher end so I can't speak to the less expensive models, but I've had a lot of camera including several Kodaks and you just can't go wrong with the Lumix.

I prefer the Lumix over an Easyshare. I had an ZS8 and was very happy with it (until I lost it).

Ultimately, I'd recommend a Canon over anything else.

I have the cheapest version of the lumix and it is still amazing! My mom has a kodak easyshare and I hate that camera!

Hmmm. It seems to be even on both types. What would be easiest for a seven year old? Remember, I need this camera to be easy to use, as well as take good pictures and video.

Kodak C123. Super cheap (<$70) uses standard AA batteries and standard SD card. It is a water proof camera that does not have a lens that extends out so you can slip it into your pocket when on. It is a 12mp camera and super easy to use. Turn it on and push the take a picture button... Did i mention it is water proof... It comes in blue, gray and orange/red which is what i got since it does not float. I figured the red would be easier to find. If you are willing to spend the extra shipping you can order it from Europe and get it in yellow. It is slightly larger then a deck of playing cards. I got mine from amazon plus got the case for $3 more... Not a special deal they just had the case for $2.99...

I bought my dd, now 14, a Lumix a couple years ago. She loved it, but the screen went kerfluey after the warrenty expired. I took it as a freak thing and bought her another one in July. The screen went kerfluey, but in a different way. I need to find the receipt, but once I do, I can tell you how they are about their warranty. Lets just say that if we have to buy another one, it won't be a Lumix. ;)

I've had my current Easy share for 7 years now and it still works great. It has been dropped on all kinds of surfaces, and keeps ticking. I love that it runs off regular AA Batteries, I just use the rechargables and keep an extra pair in the bag. Before this one, I used another EasyShare for 5 years. It is still running and my mom has it; I just wanted a higher zoom.

Whatever model you get, I would suggest a Square Trade warranty. For a camera, you could most likely get 3 years with accidental damage coverage for under $50. They have replaced 3 laptops for me over the last two years with barely any questions. There is usually a code for 20-30% off.
