gets its name from the town in Japan where the cows were originally raised. They were generally fed special diets including beer mash and reportedly given massages at one time. The steers tend to have higher amounts of intra muscular fat which makes for a more luscious mouth feel and better flavor. The breed is often, and more accurately, described as wagyu beef when raised in the US or Australia. Kobe or wagyu items are sold at higher prices than most prime beef in the US.
