Hey

We are visiting Disneyland in September, we will be there for almost two weeks and we plan to spend at least one of our days visiting a differnt park in the area.

This is our dilema, which other park do we visit?

Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?
We will have a car so are able to travel easily but we want to be able to do this in a day, no overnight stops anywhere, it will be just two adults so no kids to entertain.

We thought about Knottsberry Farm (I love peanut pals) or Legoland.

Please Help!!!!

Knotts is much closer, probably about 20 minutes away. I've never been to Legoland, but I think it is over an hour away, and geared toward little kids.
Have you considered Universal? It is more adult-oriented, plus you can enjoy Citywalk after visiting the park.

We need to know more. Are there kids with you? what ages are they?

So, tell us who is in your party and do they like thrill rides?

If you don't have any kids and are into rides, then I would say Knotts as Legoland is (in what I've experienced) pretty kid-oriented and most, if not all of the rides are suitible for kids...the only "thrill" ride is a robo-simulator that is actually really fun. But besides that, if you don't have kids then you wouldn't have much to do except walk and look around, which, isn't a bad thing, as the park is set up pretty nicely. But you can only do that for so long.

Knotts used to be very family oriented but since the park changed owners they've put in a ton of coasters and made it much more appealing to the teen/adult crowd. Nowadays, it's kind of like a cross between Six Flags and Disney (Coasters like SF, theming like Disney) although neither are as "good" as you'll find in either parks.

But I'm pretty nostalgic about Knotts since when I was little, my family didn't do Disneyland so all we went to was Knotts. Lots of memories from that place...I would definitely reccomend it over Legoland if it's just two adults.

Small bit of trivia...did you know that Disney nearly bought Knotts back around 1995-ish when it was up for sale? They planned to turn it into a park called Disney's America, re-working the theme into the exsisiting park. The offer was actually rejected because the owners thought that they would change the park too much and loose the special Knotts feeling...ironicly enough, the people that ended up bying the park made many, many more changes than Disney ever would have made. I only found out about this recently, so it's fun to think of what might have been, lol!

Knotts! It's no Disney, but I think Knotts berry farm has some neat things. Eat some of Mrs. Knotts Fried Chicken for me!

I would drive down to the San Diego Zoo. It's about a hour and a half each way, but the zoo is amazing, world class, we get zoo APs every few years because we like it so much, even before kids.

I agree, we need more information about age of children going.

We went to Legoland during our Disney trip in Jan. DS, 6, had a good time however the rides are geared for I would say ages 3-8. We are glad we went however we were disappointed that there was not more to do and the overall quality of the park. Miniland was very cool however.

We are going to do Knott's this next time around. DS loves the Peanuts and thrill rides so we figured this would be a good match.

Since you are 2 Adults going with No kids!!! Go to Knotts... The rides are thrill seaking and enjoyable. The food can be ok. There is a TGIF across the street that is good. You can also get a stiff drink there.

Just got back from a day at Legoland. Took by ds6. No reason to go back. I was dissapoined. It needs a good powerwash and paint job. The miniland was cool. But we have decided to save up and go to the one in Germany next time.

I love Knotts, but haven't been there for many years.

As for Legoland, every adult I know who has gone there has come back dissappointed.

Legoland is for little kids(up to age 10 I'd say), so I don't think you will enjoy yourselves. Knotts is super close to Disneyland and has some big roller coasters if you enjoy those kind of rides. I've not been to Universal, but that would probably be good for rides too. Have fun.

Legoland is for sure not for you if you have no kids. I go every week and never see kids over 10 there. If you want to do San Diego, the Zoo and Sea World are both great. The drive is about 2 hours with little to no traffic. If you hit traffic, you're looking at an extra 45 minutes on top of that 2 hours.

Knott's is really good too, and a PP mentioned Universal. Both are entertaining and closer than San Diego. Since you are going for two weeks, you could even do both of these parks. Knott's is only like 20-30 minute drive.

Have fun!

We were just at Knotts, and it could use a good cleaning and paint job also. DH and I were not too impressed with it. We arrived at 10am when they opened and were ready to leave 5 hours later.

We didn't go to Legoland.

That being said, we enjoyed Universal Studios WAY more than Knotts Berry Farm. We were at Universal from open to close (10am - 6pm) and it was just enough time. We didn't run out of anything to do and had fun from beginning to end.

If you do a Gray Line tour, you get can get tickets and a shuttle bus to/from Universal for a decent price (it takes approx. 45 minutes - 1 hour to get there from Anaheim).

Universal was a blast!! Very adult AND children themed. All 3 of us (DH, DS, and I) had tons of fun!

I would go to Knott's. The drive is not very far away and it has a few things that are much bigger thrills than at Disneyland, very nice to visit now and again. I LOVE the Silver Bullet!!!!

We actually liked Legoland over Knotts but that was probably because we had a little one. It is pretty cool the things they can make with a batch of Legos.

Knott's was somewhat of a dissapointment after having been at Disneyland. It was not very clean, rather run down and just seemed to lack very many interesting rides. Of course, it has been a few years since we went so maybe the new owners have made improvements.

I would also suggest Universal for 2 adults. They actually have a good assortment of things to do. They have some nice rides but even more than that we really enjoyed the studio tour. The animal show was fun too.

Hi Guys

Thanks for all of the feedback, its really useful in helping us make our decision.

We really like themeparks, Disney being our favourite type but we always try to do something different aswell. Last time we visitied DL we went to Universal Studios and had a really good time but we want to try and do something else this time.

We went to Legoland in the UK last weekend and had a really nice day and realise that it is more child orientated but we still had a good time, we weren't sure how that would be different in Los Angles though.

Getting really excited to visit now, it seems like its coming round really quickly - roll on September!!!!!

David

enjoy to the fullest when you get there.

I would point to Knott Berry's Farm as has a lot more roller coster rides to be enjoyed. There also all the older buildings and 'history' side of stuff, but will admit tad 'sad' that they paved it (however long ago). Plus, can always spend half a day goign to the water side of the park (different cost)
