Hi, we are going to DLR in just a week and a half for a family reunion. Several of the teens and young adults in our group have decided that they want a day at Knott's and I promised to help them put together a touring plan. The problem is that the only time I have been there is during off-season time when you can walk from one ride to the next without waiting more then 5 minutes anywhere. So......can any of you experts help me here?? What would be the best order for them to hit the rides in to avoid long lines?? They will be there before the park opens and understand how important this is.

Oh and what day of the week would be the best one for them to go?? Monday or Weds would be the best with our current DLR plans but Thursday could also work.

Even in the summer, Knott's is far less crowded than Disneyland (unless it's on a holiday...I was just there on July 4th and :scared1:). The weekends will be a bit more crowded than weekdays, and since you're planning on being there during the week, there's not anything to worry about.

With that said, assuming that your family wants to do all the "big" rides, I'd wait until I got there to see if all the rides will be up & running when the gates open in the morning. IIRC, Xcelerator (the huge rollercoaster on the pink track with the trains that look like 57 Chevys) opens later than the rest of the coasters; this one often will have the longest line. If it will be up & running in the a.m., I'd go on that first, then the other big coasters (Boomerang, Silver Bullet, Ghost Rider) after, along with the Log Ride and Mine Train. Bigfoot Rapids (water ride) would be good to do around noon, because it's a WET ride & it should be hot enough out by then.

Out of the days you listed, I'd do Monday if possible.

Hope that helps!

First, you should be sure to have tickets in advance. From my most recent visit on July 4: the gates opened just before 9:45.

Some day, WindSeeker (more like ExcuseMaker) will open. Construction seems to be about completed. I'm thinking that testing will be lengthy, given the problems the ride has experienced at other places. If you are there when it is operating, and you dare to ride it, I'd definitely go for it at park opening. Unless there is some other specific line set up for it, I think the best place to be at rope drop would be on the right (from the entrance) next to the Camp Snoopy Store and close to Sierra Sidewinder. You would go in sort of an upside-down "J" to get to Windseeker, straight on from rope drop, turn left at the edge of the park (in front of the little Ferris Wheel), and turn left again after Montezooma's Revenge and Jaguar.

As for ride order, the basic idea is to avoid backtracking. See this post for more information and a suggested plan - which does not take Windseeker into account. If you rode Windseeker first, you have two good choices. Go further "up" (as seen on the park map) to Supreme Scream, Xceleratlor, Perilous Plunge, Log Ride, etc, or go back to Sierra Sidewinder, Silver Bullet, perhaps Ghost Rider ...

Great....thanks!!! It is good to hear that it won't be too bad crowd wise. That will make it easier for them all to enjoy the day!!! And I'll let them know how to approach the park so that they avoid backtracking and are able to enjoy all of the major rides with minimal waits!!! You all are awesome.

Knott's is a great park and definately worth the trip, but just remember, it ain't disneyland. They have fewer staff and line queues don't move as quickly. There is nobody there telling you which line to go in so people queue up in the lines for the front and the back of most of the coasters. You can get on much faster if you don't mind riding in one of the middle cars. It is all the same line until you get to the ride and then its a free-for-all.

Some of the food places have very few people working and to the lines there move slow too. It isn't that the place is busier it is just that everything at Knott's runs at a different pace. That makes for a really nice visit when the crowds are low, but starts to get frustrating when the place gets packed and you are in a hurry to get somewhere.
