Knots in long hair.....

Here are my princesses

Beautiful girls!!! Thanks for sharing!
My oldest has waist length fine hair too. I have found that the salon brands make all the difference on her hair. I try to buy it in the fall (back to school time)when they sell it in liters. Normally you can buy them 2 for $25. Then I buy the $1 pump and it lasts a long time, plus as a bonus my younger two cannot waste.
Condition well, and make sure it's all rinsed. Buy her a nice high thread count pillowcase, or a satin one (Hannah's is pink satin and she thinks it's "princessey") I buy the conditioning spray for mornings, again the salon brands are better ingredients and go further, I do use the suave apple scent on my two younger ones though.
I bout dd the American girl book about the care and keeping of you. Also they have a book about hair I got for her too.

I always have wanted to use my good shampoo on her but thought it would be to harsh on her hair. Is that not true?

Thank you everyone!! I will try lots of this out. I LOVE long hair I have had long hair my whole life (never changed my hairstyle) so I will try and make this work. I love all the hair bows and barrettes!

I learned this from a cousin who had VERY long hair--her mother put it in a ponytail every night (that way it didn't have the kinks from the braid). I've done this whenever I have long(er) hair and it works like a charm. I love not having hair in my face while I sleep, too. My hair is just barely long enough to pull back but I still do this.

--Just put it up high on top of her head so she's not sleeping on it all night. Ouch!

My DD has always had long, thick curly hair (ringlets for the longest time) and I've just learned that brushing doesn't work for her! Working out the snarls before showering and then combing when wet seems to work best. She probably could start burshing now that it has lost much of it's curl, it used to just ruin the ringets when she was little. For my other DD, with long thick, straight (not stick straight, slight wave), brushing is okay.

Bad thing is I don't braid very well...I know....I have had long hair my whole life and I stink at braiding!

It doesn't matter what it looks like, if she's only going to bed no-one will see it anyway! We have to do this with my DD6 every night, it's terrible if we miss it one night (like sometimes if we get back late and she goes straight to bed) - her hair is a mess in the morning!

Dd used to have waist length hair. I would put it up each night in a very high pony tail (an on top of her head, not in the back of her head pony tail) and that took care of bed time tangles. Unfortunately she's a rough and tumble girl who loves to follow her older brother. No matter what hairstyle i do to her hair in the morning (pin, ponytail, braid, pigtails), she comes home from school with her hair down and all over the place. I was getting tired of untangling her hair and she got tired of her head hurting with my brushing that we decided to cut it off. We chopped off her hair before this past school year and donated it to locks for love. She now has a bob. Unfortunately we forgot about dance recitals when we chopped off her hair so now we don't know if her hair will work for a ballerina bun. :sad2: :sad2:

Thanks ladies!! Lots of good things to try...

I do use the leave in conditioner and detanglers but sometimes it is still just awful!

She has very fine hair so I can't do too much conditioner and such because her hair would just be too limp.

Thanks again Disers!

1. It doesn't need to ge a good looking braid, just functional.

2. Practice on some play-doh. Seriously, that's how I learned as a kid. :)

Those with pools or using a pool lots during summer CONDITION hair before swimming.....glob it on protects from pool chemicals and sun damage

The best suggestion I have is to use good quality shampoo and conditioner on her. I would stay away from things like Suave and I wouldn't use "kids" products either. They can be harsh on long hair from what I can tell, just easy on the eyes. If you have the time, you could also try blow drying her hair before bed to make sure it's dry as well. I used to do thsi with my stepdaughters because they got knots too. They LOVED when I did it because their hair felt smooth and silky after the wash/conditioner then the leave-in conditioner.

Their mom was never a hair person and honestly, they looked a wreck sometimes. She always commented on how nice their hair was after being with us, so I finally told her what we did. She did this :scared1: because it sounded like a lot of work. :lmao: I told her I'd rather do that than fight the knots in the morning.

I don't think I used baby/kid shampoo after my girls were 2.5 or so. My mother thinks I'm nuts for using a $10 shampoo (Alagio Hawaiian nut, it works great and she loves the smell) on a child who isn't even four yet, but it works so much better.
