So we've decided to make a weekend of it. What are the best places to stay? Chain motels? What towns do I look for in looking for places to stay?Places to eat in the area? Other things to see and do?

Thanks for the help. :goodvibes

I can't help you much on hotel names because my parents live about 45 min away and we stay with them. I'd look for the towns of Elysburg, Danville and Bloomsburg when searching for hotels. I know there are several B&Bs around Elysburg if you're looking for that kind of accomodations.

As far as eating, I'd just eat lunch and dinner at the park. They've got a wide variety of food, including a sit down restaurant (The Alamo), an international food court, an outdoor cafeteria that serves BBQ chicken meals (or fish frys on Fridays I believe) and lots of counter service stands. The park has won numerous awards for their food from amusement park associations. I recommend trying:

-Cesari's Pizza
-Fresh cut french fries next to the Alamo
-Waffles and ice cream at the round stand (close to the Old Mill ice cream stand)
-ice cream from the Old Mill
-fudge and/or fresh roasted peanuts from Stony Gables
-caramel corn

Oh gosh their food is amazing.. I dont think there is a bad thing to eat there! They are all reasonably priced too! Eat at the park when ever possible! I'm not sure about hotels since I live 30 min away I've never paid attention before. Danville would be the closest "big town" by it. Have a great time! I love that place!

Thanks for the info! I'll check out the towns you mentioned. It's nice to know the food is great, too! :thumbsup2

Oh that FUDGE! I need to go back soon. I wish I could remember the hotel we stayed at last time we stayed- it was a little drive away. Oh and I know they were building a hotel one exit away - we noticed back on opening day.

Here's the one we stayed at

It was clean and nice. About 30 minutes though to the park. But for us it was the best we could find.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Bloomsburg during Memorial Day weekend and would highly recommend it. It was very nice, convenient and the indoor pool had great hours. Also, the breakfast (included) was delicious and had a lot of variety.
