We will be traveling to wdw with my mil. She had knee replacements a few years ago and can walk fine, but sometimes has trouble doing things like getting up off the couch or getting out of a car. I was wondering, for those that have gone to Disney with knee replacements, or other mobility related issues, were there any rides that you found particularly difficult to get out of that you would recommend avoiding?

We will also be renting her a scooter to limit her walking as much as possible.

I have had a total replacement on both of my knees and never had a problem getting on or off any ride. I do think getting an ECV is a great idea because its still lots of walking!

I haven't had joint replacement but I have rheumatoid arthritis and both knees and one hip are problematic. I'm almost 50 years old. My husband and I visited Disneyland right before Christmas. The two rides I had difficulty exiting were Space Mountain and Splash Mountain. I didn't try the Bobsleds after those experiences. Anything that has you sitting real low and then needing to arise and kind of climb out could be be a problem. I didn't have much of an issue with California Screamin'. Getting into the ride vehicles wasn't a problem, but getting out wasn't quick and speedy. The CM's doing ride unloading on Space and Splash weren't particularly patient since I was slower than everyone else exiting and my husband had to assist me a little.

There is a post for that.
Follow the link in my signature to the disABILITIES FAQs thread or look for it near the top of this board.
Posts 18-22 on page 2 of that thread that list attractions that might be more difficult to get in or out of.

Thanks! Exactly what I was looking for!

I don't have knee replacements in my knees (yet). But, I have double hip replacements, one in either hip, and the rides I tend to avoid because they're hard for me to get out of as they cause pain are:

1) Splash Mountain
2) Test Track
3) Space Mountain
4) Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

I haven't gone to Disney World yet with my double hip replacements. The times I have gone are just when I had the one hip replacement in my right hip. I hope that you and your family has a great time. I love Disney World so much. And driving an ECV around the parks is a lot of fun too, for anyone that needs to use one.
