My middle child (almost 16 yrs old) just got accepted into a drumline group & one of their huge competitions will occur midway through our trip. Its a travel trip and about a long flight from home (I think its being held in the chicago area, we live in Southern California). I want him to be able to participate in it, but what about our Disney World trip?

Here are my options, so far. Please let me know what you think

1. Him go to disney with us and leave mid-trip to fly & meet his group (in a city that he is not familiar with)
2. Have him stay at home, with a friends family, and fly with his group to the band thingy and miss our first and possibly ONLy trip to Disney World.
3. Have him skip the band trip, which would make him very sad & also not make his band leader very happy

We traded a timeshare week for our disney week at Beach Club Villas. I cant just 'switch it'. If we dont go, we just simply lose out. I am so confused on what to do. Please give me your advice.

Since he is almost 16, have you thought about asking him what his preference would be? I'm sure it would be a tough decision for him to make as well, but since it isn't possible to change the time of your Disney trip it kind of comes down to which trip he would rather take.

I was a band director before kids... that would not be my first suggestion, especially because it was presumably an auditioned group. It can be so hard to rework things with a player missing. Did the director give out dates of shows before your ds auditioned?

I think I would ask take alliebug's suggestion and ask his preference. Sounds like a tough choice for everyone. Sorry.
