Ok so everyone at this point knows about the Kong rumors. Some say it is going in Universal while others say IOA next to Jurassic Park. Well take this for what it is but it looks like IOA may be the new home, and it looks like the project will start sometime this year. This is from another website that tends to be accurate.

"The vehicles will be two connected vehicles, similar to Great Movie ride... The driver or guide will be in the first vehicle, again, similar to Great Movie Ride... 4 to 6 people will sit per row, with 5-6 rows in the first vehicle, and 7 or 8 rows in the second...

Ok, as for the ride: You know where Thunder Falls Terrace current is? We will be entering the attraction from around that area... We will be walking through giant gates of old ruins... As we continue to queue, we enter the ruins of a temple (descending) which will be heavily themed... We then ascend through to the top of the temple, which will be outdoors, where load will be... The first three scenes of the attraction will be outdoors... We will then transition inside through a wall, and the next few scenes will take place indoors... As we come to the end of the ride, we will reach what is being described as something physical guests will be very happy with, but no idea as I couldn't figure that out lol.... We then reach unload, and before we exit the attraction after unload, we will encounter a very unique bonus scene after unload...

While inside, we will enter an insect chasm and come upon AAs and screen projections of scorpions, dragonflies and centipedes.. we'll exit the insect chasm into a bat cave, where we encounter the Terapusmordax (scary batlike creatures) from the movie...Terrifying is how this scene is described... The vehicle will lose control in the bat cave as well.. We'll also encounter Kong right before and after the transition back outside." Now like the man said things can change, but this looks like the plan at this point. So pretty cool huh?

All I knew up until you posted this is that there are tons of trees being marked to keep or save by Thunder Falls and that this was almost certainly for a new Kong ride.Universal Hollywoods version of a Kong ride is in their studio tour and although cool just looks too short for a major ride in the Orlando parks.I'm glad that it'll be more elaborate than in Hollywood, when you say physical guests will be happy with the finish, does that mean there will be some sort of thrilling aspect to the ride?

I think there is an physical animatronic Kong and not just a simulated one at the finish.

I am not sure what exactly will make it a thrilling ride except that it is expected to be one. I don't expect a coaster or anything since these carts are going to be Great Movie Ride style. Maybe some sort of way to make the carts shake and move. Mostly I think people are going to be impressed by the giant AA's planned for the ride.

Any projections on when Kong will be opening?

I thought that there was supposed to be a new JP themed ride in the JP area. Is this true or is Kong the new addition to the JP area?

Still rumored though becoming more credible, and the rumors also are adding a JP themed ride to the area as well..I wouldnt count on anything till late 2015 and probably later

The area beside Thunder Falls Terrage for the Skull Island has been permitted and is being cleared. So something definitely is going in there. Haven't heard much lately about the coaster and flat ride that are supposed to be over in the area where the Triceratops Encounter but those things shouldn't take long to construct.

FWIW, the TM bartender I was talking to at Duff's had heard Kong might "pick up" the vehicles, which would be very cool. And, yes, it's a TM rumor which I'd hesitated to put in the TR for that reason. But it jives with your great post, so I thought I'd throw it out there.......:)

So is it just going to be a remake of the Kong ride that I remember from my trip in the 90s? I rode that a bunch of times. I think it's one of the few rides I remember from that trip. kong did pick up the car on that ride and you could smell his banana breath.

Not a remake no.It is going to be themed to Skull Island from the 2005 King Kong movie.

He did that in the last ride.

He did that in the last ride.

I remember it well and it was awesome! This TM (rumor alert) said it was going to be a tribute to the old with a new twist. He had no idea what that meant but it was a big topic with the other TM's as to what that might mean - animatronics interaction with the guide, a shake, etc......

I bet we hear all of the above in the coming months

So excited for this!
I was only around 10 when the old ride went, and It was a favourite of mine, I've desperately wanted them to make a new Kong ride as I remember the old one being so popular, and now I have my own children I've shown them old footage of home videos of me on the ride,

I loved how it was a cable car though and how it was quite scary :) " well for a child anyways"

Its amazing how universal can pop rides up in a year yet disney take years to make a ride! I LOVE disney but instead of spending 3wks there were only doing 2 in June and spending a wk doing universal instead! That says a lot for our family.

if they are going to all the trouble to put up another similar one? Should have kept the old and just updated it, no?:confused3

It's really not going to be similar at all. The old ride had guests riding in the cable cars throughout New York City. This one is in jeep type vehicles through Skull Island.
