Just wondering if anyone knows the opening date for this new ride. All info found just says "summer of 2016". We are planning a trip in May or June and don't want to miss this great experience. Thanks

No definite date has been released yet, far too early.

Still just Summer 16.

If your trip is May or part of June, skull island most likely won't be open

Summer begins third week of June

Sounds like it will be AWESOME! Will be missing it on our May '16 trip, disappointed, :sad2:but will be anxious to check out King Kong and hopefully Volcano Bay in '17!:hyper::cool1:

There is an off chance it'll be in "soft openings" then. I.e. unannounced partial day openings for testing.

We have done a trip during mid-May to end of June for years, so I have eagerly followed the progress of the new attractions.

i had hoped to catch Transformers on a soft opening, but we missed it by a week in '13. It was widely reported they started the tests the last few days in May. Official opening day was approximately 3 weeks later, a Sunday, June 20th. Yes, i looked it up:teeth: to verify the dates.

Transformers was announced as a summer opening (same as Kong & WWoHP).

WWoHP opened approximately same time in 2010, a pattern of sorts. My guess is if things progress according to plan, they will follow suit and shoot for same third week of June opening, with corresponding soft openings the end of May.

Guessing that they state summer as a built-in hedge JIK things take longer than expected and it looks better to come in early on a project.

An eternal optimist, I have but a glimmer of hope that Kong might be opened for testing during our trip 2nd week of May this year lol.

Same here Keisha! We always go late-May/early-June, and I watch those openings as well.
On our last day in 2013, they were doing the soft opening of Transformers, but we were leaving the park soon and the wait was already at 45 mins. We were so bummed we had got THAT close and missed it!

Like how Rockit was supposed to open in Spring, and then Spring turned into August? lol

Since it is one of the main reasons we are going this year ( hubby wanted to skip this year) , I planned my trip for end of August..

There are a few (unsourced) rumors that may give you hope (or less depending on timing).

The rumors are training starts at the new attraction March 8th (some offsite stuff happens in Feb), but more for the environment in general since the actual ride part won't be ready for them then.
The Tonight Show/Jimmy Fallion is rumored to be doing a taping May 26-27 at Universal and the soft opening shortly after and actual grand opening is still "summer".
The ride line/queue is dark in parts, but the entire thing from the first foot in the line until you walk out of the attraction area will be an experience.

The ride itself contains animatronics (including one HUGE Kong towards the end), smoke and fire effects, water, and the ride takes more staff than 3 typical attractions combined. Two outdoor areas and then the big screen room, with motion, ground, smaller animatronics, and smells and then the larger animatronic filled room (possibly another room in between). After the ride there is going to be some sort of wild photo op.
