Kindles for kids?

I am thinking of getting my kids (ages 10 and 8) Kindles for Christmas. Are there enough kids books available for kids this age? And if we do decide to get them, which one should we get? The Kindle Touch, the Kindle Keyboard or the basic Kindle (thinking that lack of keyboard might be a pain). Any suggestions?

My kids both have Kindles (they are 12 and 10). There are tons of book available, that shouldn't be any issue. And you can do library loans, although I haven't checked to see what type of kids' selection is available for borrowing through the library, I'm guessing that will be fairly limited.

The thing with our Kindles though - my son said he would rather read a regular book! My daughter uses hers more, but my kids really like paper books with pages! Disappointing for tech-y mom. :rotfl:

My two are getting Kindle Fire's for Christmas. It is a great thing for kids.

I agree with the Kindle fire idea. They can download books, movies, songs, and apps. It seems to cover all the basis at a fraction of the cost of an Ipad.

I have a Kindle and was considering one for DD(9). But looking at the Kindle Fire, I'm leaning towards that. I'm just waiting for them to come out so I can have a few of my questions about them answered.

Both kids already have itouches so I'm leaning towards the new Kindle or the Kindle Touch. Decisions, decisions.

There are tons of books and even games available on kindle. I'd personally lean towards the kindle fire. Of course like a PP said wait a bit and see what other think of it, but it seems to be pretty much an ipad at half the price. You can download movies, books, games and check email on the kindle fire. I'm hoping Santa will leave me one under the tree.

STB-SD13 wants one and I really do not think she will use it as much as she claims, especially since I never see her read a book! I saw Office Max has a $79 Kindle and I plan on getting that for her.
