I recently got a Kobo which is very much the same as a Kindle. It is sold by Chapters/Indigo up here and Borders in the US. I am really enjoying it. I didn't even know I needed one until I read this thread::rotfl2:

There is some helpful info in there from people who have Kindles, Kobos and Sony E-Readers. Enjoy:)

What are the differences? Are they significant?:confused3

This gives you a comparison chart.

I honestly didn't research the Kindle, as many on the board seemed happy with the Nook and the Kobo. It the Kobo is compatible with the ebook format used by the public libraries here which was a big consideration for me. I also really like the fact that the Kobo came pre-loaded with 100 classic books.

I will say that the Kindle/Kobo/Nooks are better suited to novels or non-fiction with no pictures. My DH downloaded a nutrition/exercise book and it really didn't work out too well. An I pad would likely be better in that respect.

If you're planning on using your reader for library books, make sure you check which devices are supported by your local library. I don't believe that the Kindle is currently supported for library use....but that may have changed since I bought my reader.

I have the Sony. It is quite simple and plain, but it does exactly what I need it to do. I am currently reading about 2-3 books from the library per week with it, and it is so easy to use! The best part is I don't actually have to go to the library - which was always easy to do to borrow, but seemed to be a problem to return!! Now, no more overdue fines!!!
