kindle vs Nook

I didn't know anyone was buying Nooks anymore:rotfl2: sorry, no flames please....:lmao: Seriously they are so backward in comparison to....well every other tab;et option out there.... I had a Nook color for a couple of years and was completely unimpressed. Overpriced ebooks? no thanks.Slow processor? no thanks. I preffered a simple b&w kindle for reading, and since Kindle offers literally hundreds of free books daily in all genres...that was what I used....then I got the ipad min, installed the kindle app(for the free books) and haven't looked back since. (It's amazing) I love the downloaded pdf,etc book collection I now have, plus the capability for so much more than the...Nook. If it's kindle vs. nook, I'd advise Kindle. If it's anything goes, I advise the Ipad Mini (love it) FWIW, I use a 'matte' type screen shield, and turn up the brightness,to read outdoors with no issues on ipad.
I still like the basic kindle though, and the fire seems pretty nice.

Since you didn't know people still buy Nooks you probably also didn't know that Nooks now have access to the Google Play App store and you can buy the books pretty much from any store, including Amazon.

OP, I don't know if you saw it but the Kindles are on sale this week on the Amazon site. They pretty much go on sale right before every "gift giving" holiday, the current one being Father's Day. Nooks are pretty much being handed over to Samsung and there's supposed to be some Barnes and Noble branded Samsung tablets soon. Also the refurbished older generations frequently go on sale depending on how much inventory Amazon has laying around that they need to clear out.

Amazon also has a new product announcement event coming up soon and they'll likely announce the next generation of tablets then. I think it's next week sometime.

I love my kindle paper white to read. We do have an iPad but I can't read for long on it and outside the glare is really a problem.

I have an original Kindle Fire, and yes, I use it for a ton of things other than reading, although I use it a ton for reading. Ease of use on library books really depends on your library system rather than the tablet, so you'll definitely want to check with them first.

As for existing content, there is a free app out there called Calibre, that will allow you to manage your content and save it to different formats. There is also a plug in that will strip out the digital rights sections so that they become open to sideload onto your new device, whatever it may be. I ran into this when my husband wanted me to remove my Kindle from his account (he hated seeing recommendations based on my book purchases) but I had a ton of stuff on there from the old account that I had to strip out the rights sections on so it would load onto my Kindle. I don't use it to pirate books from other people, I've already bought the book and I just want to put it on my new device on a new account.

I've seen the new Fires, and would love to get one, the Amazon Prime option to download a "borrowed" movie/episode would be awesome! I just need to have my old Kindle die so I can get one!

I should of gone to the library and met with the digital librarian first. She said she has no problems setting up peoples' Kindles and iPads but the Nooks, even the new ones are a mess. We spent two hours trying to get Adobe and Overdrive to work. I gave up and returned and got an iPad mini. I'm going back to the library tomorrow to set it up. This way I don't have to travel with my macbook. I can bring my old nook for by the pool and use the iPad for everything else. I love Nook but they need to fix the library issue. My library is pretty progressive, if they say they suck 7 times out of 10, I believe them.

You won't regret it:thumbsup2.

I think I will, we're an Apple family. The brief bit I saw of Google Chrome, I was like uh oh, I have to learn something new. There won't be a steep learning curve with the mini but I do think they are overpriced.

got the mini, met with librarian and was good to go in half an hour. And I won't have to lug my laptop to the resort this summer. Yay!

I have a Nook HD, with the goggle apps it's also a Kindle. I use multiple library accounts with it, and have had no problems. Some librarians are not up to speed on the technology.
I use multiple websites for free books, some Kindle, some Nook. I have had no problems in over a year...

Sounds like you made a good choice!

I wish more people would ask us at the library first. We spend a fair amount of time teaching technophobe people how to use their new nook/kindle/ipad/tablet. We generally know what will work best with our particular ebook system and can direct people to what makes the most sense for them. We even have a kindle and a nook to loan out. People love having the chance to have hands on for a while before deciding which to purchase.

I love our library- they loan out museum passes and fishing poles and our interlibrary loan is awesome, good community programs
