Want to order one for dd for Xmas and can't decide. I am leaning towards the refurbished kindle with 3G. Is there some reason why I shouldn't? They are both $139.

Thanks!

with 3G for sure. I can download books from anywhere..even when floating on the boat on the river. If I didnt have the 3G I would have to be in a hot spot. I love the 3G !!

The only thing to keep in mind is if you want to get the two-year warranty (costs $60 and covers one accidental breakage) you'll need to get the new kindle. They don't offer it with the refurb. Other than that, I say go with the refurb. I love my wireless access on my kindle :)

Amazon is so good about replacing kindles that I dont know whether I woudl bother with the extended warrantee. They want you to keep buying books and you wont if your kindle is broken. So theyve been known to replace them even if you broke the screen by accident. The 3g is nice but think about where you would use it. Just make sure you buy it from amazon.

If it's a K3 refurb from Amazon, I'd definitely go that way. I've downloaded books at the beach, traveling in the car, up in the mountains, in class :rolleyes1. It's so nice to not be tied to a computer or a wireless network. I've never once regretted having the 3G.

The refurbished models are the 2nd generation and the new ones are the new Kindle 3.

So what you need to do is read up on the differences The better screen, better battery, more storage etc. Its really up to you. Also note that officially the Kindle refurbs have a reduced warranty, I think it is 90 days. But unofficially Amazon is so good about replacing Kindles outside of warranty that I'm not sure how much of a concern that is.

I did buy an Amazon refurbished Kindle (The Kindle 2 US) when the price was $109 and it is still going strong.

My personal preference is I'd rather have a K3 WiFi at $139 than a K2 refurbished at $139. I did buy the $189 Kindle 3 when they came out though and it is by far my favorite eReader.

Love my Kindle with 3G and WiFi. Doesn't matter where I am I can download books. Sooooo simple.:)
