Kindle Fire VS Ipod Touch

DS9 really, really, really wants an iPod Touch for Christmas. I am only willing to purchase the 8GB because the 32GB is way to expensive. I was also looking at the Kindle Fire and wondering if that would also be a better option. Does anyone have a kindle fire? I would love to hear opinions on both. I thought that there was an earlier post about the memory for the iPod, but of course, I can't find it now. TIA!

I thought my boys would LOVE the Kindle Fire - they fight over DH's eInk Kindle and enjoy his iphone.

We visted Best Buy on Sunday evening and "looked" at all the different devices. One chose the Touch and the other a tablet Android computer. (Surprise, he didn't like the size of the iPad, but thought the Kindle and other 7" tablets were too small. DS1 did find a Samsung Galaxy with an 8.9" screen that he loved, but still out of our price range.)

We are now on the look-out for a Touch as well. I printed out my Target coupon and hoping for the best late Friday morning for their 8g Touch with the $40 giftcard.....

Can you take you DD someplace for her to see all the electronic options?

Maybe this is a dumb question, but is the kindle fire available at Target? I used to be a die-hard Black Friday shopper, but going for electronics on that day "scare me". I will take DS to look at it to see if he likes it.

We have both Ipod touches and the Kindle fire. I just asked my 14 year old which she would prefer. She said the Fire. Because she felt it has a few more features than her touch.

I guess it would depend on a few factors though. For portability the Ipod is smaller and lighter. If you are going to use it at home only that wouldn't be as big of a factor.

If you think you will be viewing movies or videos than the Fire would win.

There are tons of apps available for both as well as music. We have received good customer service from both Apple and Amazon.

For myself I chose the Fire but I'm an adult and I will also use it as a reader.

I am getting 12 1/2 yr old the touch and 9 yr old the fire (way more than I normally do for Christmas by the way)

DD 12 really wants the ability to be mobile with hers. She is not interested in the fire because it's too big and heavy. She wants to stick it in her pocket and go.

DD 9 wants an iPad really bad but not going to happen. She has seen and played with a touch but still thinks she wants the bigger feel of the iPad. I got the fire a few days ago - she is going to love it! She loves to read, I have loaded it with books (Free) already, and apps (also free).

9 yr old has a friend that really loves his touch so I agree, try taking your son to Best Buy and see which one he thinks feels better in his hands for what he has in mind.

I miss the "surprises" of Christmas so always toss in the "if you don't get it for Christmas, maybe for your birthday"

Yes, Target has it - in a case.

Best Buy has them out, but the Fire is only on a "display mode". Had to ask someone to really be able to try it out. (I think I want the Fire though.)

We will definitely hit up Best Buy tomorrow. I have a $50 gift card for BB, so I will be more than happy to skip their lines for Black Friday. From what I've read online, the Kindle Fire seems very, very cool.

Both dd's 11 & 14 want a ereader, touchpad, color. One of their ipod touches stopped working. So I figured the Fire would be good replacement. I hope they both like it.

I played with a Fire at Target on Saturday - they had it out on display with the other Kindle products. It was functional, although it might have been in display mode (had to tab through screens explaining features) but you could definitely handle it and see how it worked, to a point.

I have been having a bit too much fun with 9 yr old DDs Fire that arrived Friday ....

how much space is on the Kindle Fire? Now that Christmas is getting closer and I have yet to buy the 2 iPod touches I planned on getting while waiting for GC deals to come along side them I started eyeing other items with friendlier prices. The big plus the iPod Touch has is the availablity to Facetime with friends and family as well as text.

Have you checked out the Vizio tablets at Costco? They are now only $189. 8" screen, which is larger than a kindle. Covers @ Amazon are $25 - which is average.

They remind me of a touch and kindle combined - has cameras, apps, can watch movies and tv online or on netflix and you can download the kindle app for reading.

I purchased for both of my kids as I didn't want to purchase a touch and then upgrade to a tablet next year and for the price, you can't beat it. It gets pretty decent reviews for a less expensive tablet.

It doesn't have the fastest OS, but for a 7 year old & 13 year old they should be more than happy. :thumbsup2

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you for the link to the 8 vs 32 thread. I don't want to spend $$$ only to have the memory not large enough. I feel very sorry for the poor sales associate that has to assist me tonight :goodvibes

I will definitely check out the Vizio at Costco! I didn't know that they had one.

My dd had the Touch and either the Fire of Nook Color on her list, but made the decision to go with the Touch. She decided that the Touch was the perfect size to carry around with you wherever. She also wanted the camera to take videos and do facetime with her friends. She has an older one so I thought for sure she would go with the Fire or NC.
I think it depends on what your kid's wants are for a particular device.

Dh and I just bought Kindle Fire's last night and I am in love! It is about the size of a book, but has teh feel of an iphoien to me as far as teh operating system goes. DH said he was able to side by side compare it with the Nook tablet and it was the easiest to navigate.
I think it only have 8GB memory, but you also get 5GB cloud memory and you can spend more $ for larger amounts of cloud memory.
If you have Amazon prime then I would definitely go with the Fire because there are so many movies and tv shows that you can stream.

Our Target store has them out to play with! :goodvibes I compared the Nook Color and the Fire (in Target) and have decided that if we get one, it will be the Fire.

Does the Nook color or kindle have facetime?
The Fire does not have facetime. I don't know about the Nook.
I have had my KindleFire for a week and I can't stop using it.
It is addictive.
It has 100's of free Apps and it has a paid app you can download for free each day. We have Amazon Prime so we can stream movies and shows for free.
I was debating between the IPOD touch and the Kindle. If you are going to watch movies and read books the kindle has a biger screen... but no facetime or a camera.
I love Apple.... and Amazon and I am torn between the two.

Bigger screen,,,,,or camera?
{sent from my Kindlefire}

After looking at both versions, I like the Kindle Fire way better. It's larger and less likely to be lost than the very small itouch.
