Kindergarten - what do they need?

I went to my DD's Kindergarten orientation this morning and all the stuff she had to have was about 50.00 and then on top of that we have to pay a 30.00 materials fee. She will be attending all day and they don't get nap time. She is in for it.. :guilty: She won't eat breakfast that early but the teacher said they will have snack time at 9 am so that made me feel better.

I wasn't very upset about her going to school as I have a 1 year old at home to keep me plenty busy but as the teacher was talking about taking her child to class the first time I could feel myself tearing up so who knows what is gonna happen on Monday....I pray I can hold back the tears at least until I can get to my Jeep. I only live 1.5 miles from the school so it won't be a long ride home....UGHHHHH!!!

GOOD LUCK!!!

I would call the school and ask for a supply list. They are usually very class specific. In my area the lists are also available at staples and target.

I work at a daycare (in Toronto Canada) in a school (I don't have my own kids), as far as I know the kids who start kindergarten in our school only have to bring a back pack. Durning the school year they HAVE to bring a snack everyday. I am pretty sure the school supplies ALL the crayons, pencils, etc.

I have a two year old at home, so I know what you mean, but DD5 is going to school tomorrow, and orientation is today for parents, and I think I might stick some tissues in my purse! Just hearing others talk about it will prob. affect me, I'm super emotional anyway. And like you, who knows what I'll do on the first day, but we also live 1 1/2 miles away :)

Our school provides everything except backpack, pencil box, folder, and large pink eraser. Why they can't buy a 10 cent eraser I don't know, but I'm not complaining!

The teacher should let you know. Though you might want to send in tissues, wet ones, and a roll of scott towels. They are always needed in the classroom!

We got our kindergarten supply list back in June. DS needs to have:

Box of Kleenex
Paint shirt
Backpack
12 pencils (Ticonderoga brand)
2 large glue sticks
24 count box of Crayola brand crayons
2 4oz bottles Elmer's glue
1 box of crackers
1 package of napkins
Beach towel (for rest time)
8-10 count package of Classic color wide-tip markers
Large zippered pencil case
8 pack watercolors
Two pocket folder
1 package Expo wide tipe dry erase markers
8oz bottle of hand sanitizer
$5.00 for consumable supplies

My oldest starts on Monday. Lots of new experiences. WE had a "roundup" in May which I found out about by word of mouth the day prior and we managed to get there. Had a tour of the kindergarten hallway (7 classes) and heard from some of the staff and PTA, received list of supplies and immunizations required. THe PTA was selling "supply packages" for $20 and it included everything my child needed. It will be at his desk on "Meet the Teacher" night (tonight) and it will be all labeled with his name. At registration last month we were able to talk with the bus route folks, lunch room lady, etc and ask questions but I assume tonight will be full of last minute questions too.

I know DS is excited and I am too but there will likely be a tear or two on Monday!
