Anyone that has thoughts on this, please contribute, I'm totally at a loss.

My 5 year old just started kindergarten this week. She LOVES it! :goodvibes But, two nights in a row she has kept us up all night because she is having night terrors. She wails and screams and sobs and screams some more but NEVER wakes up. Within 15 minutes she calms down. Unfortunately the rest of us are at each others throats because we are so exhausted.

She doesn't remember them in the morning but I'm guessing it's the stress of the new situation. She's never been to school before so it's been a huge week of change and she is loving it, but obviously is stressed :confused3

Any thoughts on how long this will last, what we can or should do?

Help! I'm so tired it took me 40 minutes to type this because I just can't focus :earseek:

I actually saw this on TV the other day. It says that when a child is having night terrors not to try to wake them up because it will make them more combative. Also, just barely touch them so that they can feel someone else is there. It said they often do not remember them.

Hope this helps a little. :confused3

My DD4 (almost 5) has night terrors, but oddly hasn't had one in a long time. I always associate it with her getting overtired. Coincidentally, DH has them too. Does anyone in your family have them?

DS has had a few night terrors and they are more terrorizing for the parents because the kid never remembers them. I could not figure out what was triggering them but then I realized that he seems to have them on nights when he is overly tired like the previous poster stated. Maybe starting school has just been so exhausting for her...maybe a 30 minute nap when she gets home from school would help?

I feel for you because it is tough to watch.

Yes, my mother does. :confused3 She also sleepwalks, I hope dd doesn't start with that!

Yes, she is exhausted. I sent her in to lay down as soon as she got home today and I will get her up in the next few minutes, we'll see if that helps at all.

I bet that will help a lot.
