Has anyone noticed that CMs are not as pleasant as they were a few years ago? This is our 1st trip in 4yrs, and I'm not getting the same warm feeling that I got in the past. Just a thought......................30 more days:banana:

I have not noticed that at all. I've gone twice already this year and had great service in the hotels and the CMs in the parks were wonderful.
The CMs I've dealt with on the phones for my ADRs were great as well. We booked our trip for the end of Sept, in mid August, my brother's step-daughter wanted to eat in Cinderalla Castle and I thought there would be no way. The CM in the dining reservations checked each day of my stay for breakfast, lunch and dinner and she was able to get us dinner at Castle. I thought that was so nice of her it really made my day.

I haven't noticed that either. The CMs are always so pleasant and friendly. I love it!!!

I've noticed it too. On my last 2 trips, I was yelled at by two CMs. Like I was their child or something, haha.

1.) I was getting my EMH wrist band in front of MK and the lady putting it on my wrist was just so miserable. Shes like, "I hate it when people get the wrist bands here! Don't you know that there are 4 other stations in the park. Your hotel should of told you something!"
I said, well, "My hotel has a giant cowboy boot outside my window. I don't think they care about this."

2.) The other time I got very upset. I was about to ride Splash and we had a FP in about 1 minute til we could get through. Well he yelled at me and said "You can't stand here! And if you don't leave until your time is ready, you're not riding!" And when I mean yelled, I mean it. He was probably 18. I told him, "Please, don't speak to me that way, or I'm going to have to get your manager." He shut up after that.

But don't think that all the CMs are like this! I've met some really great ones and I really enjoy that they get into character. But I will never forget those two people.

I think it all depends on what time of day you call them:headache: , I've called numerous times regarding our trip in 31 days:santa: . Some have been very upbeat and very helpful:) , while others were....let's just say not as helpful or upbeat:sad2: .

For the most part they are friendly, though they have to put up with an incredible amount of Bull from people. But every now and then you get one that is either just plain mean or with the younger ones particularly " On a power trip" Thing to do is call their bluff when they do step over the line and really call that manager or supervisor. getting badge name does not always help as many times they are bogus.

All of ours were great and a couple were amazing! :thumbsup2 Luckily we had no negative experiences whatsoever with CM's. They are just regular people... who knows what was going on in that moment (fight with spouse, loved one sick, not feeling well, and so on). I know we expect everyone to be perky in such a place, and I know that would not be an excuse, but it could explain it. Our 2007 trip was truly magical in every way... we can't complain! :wizard:

As I read this you haven't gone yet?

So how do you already know the CM's are not magical?

IMHO this is going to be self-fufilling. If you go looking for "non magic" moments you will find them even while Magic is happening 10 feet away.... perception is huge!

You encounter plenty of CMs before your trip on the phone during the planning process...making hotel reservations, ADRs, etc.

I agree with CarolA, it is all in your expectations and your perceptions.
We are just back from a week of true Magic. We go ever other year and I have not noticed CM's being less than wonderful.
I hope you have a Magical trip

I have to say that in my 20+ trips to WDW I have never had a bad experience with a CM. :confused3 nonetheless, they are human, and I'm sure emotions can get the better of them sometimes.

We just got back from our Halloween trip to FW 10/6-10/15. It was truly magical in every way. If I wanted to I could complain about the few CM and some of the things that DISNEY did that was unfriendly, unhelpful and uncaring but over all the people were great! There are not many places you can go and find 99% of the employees loving their jobs! Most of the CM were great. :)

I can't think of one that did anything special except maybe Charles at the Whispering Canyon Cafe and he just made us feel special by telling us about himself and his family and we did the same. He will probably come visit our farm next year on his way up north to visit his family!!!!!!....He is a DOLL!

We did not experience anything extra specially magical related to any employees and no one went out of their way to make our trip special, but we sure did make our own magic.:wizard:

There were things that happened and people that were not so helpful but we were determined to have a great time and did! I did not want ANYTHING or ANYONE to ruin our trip. It really is about attitude most of the time.
You will always have unhappy employees(for whatever reason) anywhere you go whether it be at Disney or your local grocery store!

Thanks, Amy:grouphug:

Yes, when we were at the World a few months ago, I don't recall specifics, but I think we encountered a few snarley CM's. No biggie.

I have to say, we were on Main Street one day for the Parade. A family from, I'm guessing Western Europe, just came and stood on the street right front of where we were sitting on the curb. A CM went up to them and nicely asked them to stand on the curb/sidewalk for the parade, as you know they are real strict about staying off the street during the parades, they did not understand at first but she finally got them to get off the street as the parade was starting. During the parade, the father went out in the street to get a character to come have a pic with his family, not once, not twice, but three times. She was polite at each instance but finally had to get firm with the gentleman. She kept smiling through the whole ordeal. I think she was just dealing with a language barrier in that instance, not real disobediance, but can you imagine how many people the CM's encounter in a day, and what percentage of the general public is not so easy to deal with. We have all seen people not follow some of the "rules" of DW.

My point is, everyone has a bad day, even Disney CM's. But like I said, we had excellent service 99.5% of the time while we were there and I like that percentage. I think it is unrealistic to expect perfection, even at the happiest place on earth.

I've never had a CM yell at me, but there are not as many I speak with on the phone these days who tell me to "have a magical day"...matter of fact, I've said it to THEM in the recent past!!:)

Yes, that is what I was talking about. I don't think my trip will be awful b/c I've had a few not so helpful CMs on the phone. I don't expect perfection, I understand that everyone has bad days. I've planned trips to WDW for my family for many years, and this time I noticed that some of the CMs just don't seem as nice as the ones I've encountered in the past. It was just an observation.

We've put away 39 trips to WDW and haven't encountered alot of unruly CM's. I believe its the guests perspective of whats unruly or not pleasant. We've dealt on the phone alot, CRO makes all our reservations, and just this past week we had the experience of the CM not knowing about the codes released in November, instead of debating with them on the phone, we just hung up and recalled and got a knowable CM that helped us immensely, walked us through the codes, verus AAA discount, the whole deal comparing what would be the cheapest rate for a Janruary stay.

I guess you can encounter unhappy people everywhere, we don't look for them and just try to make CM's days alittle pleasanter by conversing with them about anything. Please and thank you go along way in my book, and that's both ways.

We've had great CM's the past bunch of trips, and while some may not agree it may not be the customer service that has changed but rather the customer themselves. I've worked in numerous resort hotels starting in 1981 and I've noticed a very significant change in how the people present themselves, while this is no excuse for poor customer service it is however only human nature to be able to take so much from people before you're demeanor is effected.

Yes, I have noticed that some of the CM's seem to not be as happy and out going as in the past. But I think its because the guests are more demanding and rude. They don't stop their children from making pest of themselves, and the parents won't take no for an answer.. Its a me, me, me, desease.:surfweb:

Nope,we only met the best CM. Very nice to DD who was celebrating her birthday. Housekeeping was wonderful, towel animal/people everyday which I was not expecting at all. ( Left her a nice tip at the end of our stay) Everyone made our trip very magical!

I agree with this. Remeber when getting a towel animal was magical? Now you see people complaining all of the time that they didn't get one. Kind of took the magic away.

I do try and be very friendly and polite when I deal with the CMs. I have worked retail for 20 years, so I know how hard it is to keep a smile on your face, even when dealing with rude people. I have found smiling at the CMs, along with saying please and thank you, goes a long way in ensuring you have a pleasant CM. Face it, there are so many mean and demanding people out there. It costs me nothing to be extra nice to try and make up for them in some small way.:)
