I would love to hear any thoughts on Kimono's at Swan and Dolphin. I understand they don't take reservations? How's the food? Thanks in advance.

The rolls are nice-sized and well-prepared, even if the overall selection is small. Since California Grill has some excellent rolls and portions, I'd say Kimono's is #2 in all of WDW. If you are a sushi nut, you probably have a better place where you live. The sushi bar iitself only seats about six, although you can order food from any table. The service here is nominal.

It's not on the DDP, it doesn't take reservations, and depending on the crowd you may not find a place to sit. Swan and Dolphin guests, especially those attending a convention or a wedding, use the karaoke bar as a sort of meeting place, and it can get packed and noisy in a hurry.

We just stayed at the Swan last month and we went to Kimono's 3-4 times. The sushi was pretty good but the environment was relatively awful as far as Disney standards go. We were there during a convention or something and there were a lot of typical businessmen/women. One night we went to karaoke and an extremely inebriated woman flashed her butt to the crowd from the stage (my DS14 had just gone up to the room!). Another night there was a woman throwing up all over the bathroom. Another night a man was hitting my wife's chair with his chair so hard she had to ask him to stop; when he continued to hit her after she spoke with him, I had to say something to him and he and his fellow business guys all but wanted to fight me (real professional!). Anyway, sushi is decent but don't expect any Disney Magic!!!!!

Wow. Very helpful, though! We just booked a stay at Swan for mid-June, so we thought Kimono's might be nice for our family (DS 5 and DD 8) since they don't require ressies.

So, I would love to hear any other thoughts on places for an early dinner in the Boardwalk area!

Again, many thanks!

We stayed at the Swan for 5 nights in January and planned on Kimono's for dinner one night. I tried to make a ressie, but was told no, for sure it would only be like a 10 min wait if we showed up early (7ish). Well, we showed up starving and was told the wait would be 90 minutes! :scared1: The place was a mad house, and yes, it was conventioneers mostly. Not many children that I could see. We ordered "to go" (only took 30 minutes) and took it to the room. The portions were small and prices high. Quality very, very good. The next morning I noticed I didn't get my DVC discount and stopped by the front desk AND spoke to the manager at Kimono's. Was told by both, so sorry, no discount for you. They could not credit me - I let it go, we were on vacation after all. It was the only negative experience we had at the Swan.

IMO Kimono's is more of a lounge that serves sushi rather than a restaurant.

I'd suggest the Dolphin Fountain for an early dinner - just a short walk from the Swan. My kids enjoy eating there and they love the ice cream too. :)

We went to Kimonos last year on the first night of our trip. It was not too loud before the karaoke started, but after got much louder. DH loves sushi, and LOVED it. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have any type of kids menu. DD had gyoza (not a very big portion), and she & I shared my shrimp tempura. It was good, but I agree that the price is big while portions are small. I just didn't think it was very kid-friendly.

I like the Fountain recommendation, as well as ESPNClub. You could also try Big River Grille on the Boardwalk - nice outdoor dining. Some people like Cape May - for me, :scared1:, but I am a New England seafood snob (or so I've been told!). Kimonos is good early - the later it gets, the worse the family and dining experience, or so I've been told.
