On the news yesterday morning I heard that a young boy, I think he was 9 years old was killed by the brain afflicting killer amoeba. He was swimming in Lake Elsinore which is East of Disneyland.

The news very briefly gave a warning about the dangers of swimming in fresh water lakes, ponds, etc., but I feel they really need to raise more awareness about it. Lake Elsinore is pretty big from what I know which is pretty scarry.

I agree...they need to make a huge deal about it like they do when they find a strand of salmonella in a tomato so that EVERYONE knows about it!

It appears that not just fresh water is a danger. In the Dallas/Fort Worth area we are having problems with Cryptosporidiosis (Crypto) in the swimming pools. I believe it is being blamed for at least one death and making over 100 people ill. Several pools and water parks in the area have been closing and doing this super chlorination treatment to try to kill it off. I believe at least one city has closed their public pools for the season rather than take a chance. It is kind of scary!
